Default '84 o2 sensor plug location

Hey everyone, the rescue of this old, neglected '84/AT is coming along very well. Now it's time to get it running even better. What's left of the o2 sensor is nothing more that a rusty nub with no wire or plug anywhere in site. I have a new OEM arriving in the morning. I have searched here as well as Pelican and still have no definitive answer on where to plug it in, or where the harness starts.

Any pics would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the CE panel,
prop the upper portion of wood up, then remove the lower piece of wood.

You should find a connector laying on the floor.

NOTE look at the new O2 sensor to see what kind of connector it has .

NOTE I suggest to only use a factory O2 sensor they cost a bit more cash ,
but will generally not give any issues like the universal units do.

NOTE with the wood removed pull the carpet back just next to the bottom side of the CE panel next to the center hump.

you will find a round grommet that the O2 sensor wires pass through.

Route this so the line is not touching any of the exhaust and it doesnt get pinched between the heat shield .

Use some WD40 on the rubber grommet to fit its edge into the chassis.

NOTE check the fuel pump fuse if the O2 sensor wires short out it can blow the fuel pump fuse

Wow glad I asked, I wasn't even close. I have a direct replacement coming, not a universal. I've been down that bumpy road before.

I will have to do a write up with a title and pics so all this will be easy to find for the next time this comes up.

Going out to look now.

NOTE you may also have to drop the Y pipe to install the O 2 sensor.

NOTE if you do have to drop the pipes,
dont install the other end of the O2 sensor till the pipes are back into position,
this so you dont cut the wires on the chassis

I found the plug just where you said it should be. Looks like I may have misidentified the o2 bung. The stump I saw on the bottom of the cat might just be a plug of some sort. If it is located on the top of the catalytic converter, I will have to drop the Y-pipe.

Had a thought, but nevermind. You already posted a response that negated my thought.

should have told me.... I have a bunch of old o2 sensors, all good for the 84

by the way, I have a cat that bolts up to the stock exhaust and to the devek headers if you or anyone is going that route.
