Actually, I've just found that the central locking does work now, but only with the ignition on, so central locking (using the rotary ****) & windows both working from inside the car with the key in the ignition.

I don't know if this could be the problem or not but notice on your original relay it has an 87a pin and your replacement has an 87b pin. Maybe an "a" goes to the constant 12v pin in the relay and a "b" goes to a switched 12v pin which would explain why your locks used to work with the ignition off and now only work with the ignition on.

Your new relay is an incorrect type. As Alan said you want a single pole, double throw relay.
i.e. one output contact is "made" when the relay is un energised, and a second contact is made when the relay is activated.

The relay you bought just has two contacts, both made when the relay is energised.

As John says - this is not a generic SPDT relay - in fact is is an unusual type with basically two identical but independent 87 contacts with a common shared terminal operated by the same coil. Here 87 and 87b do the same thing and that is not what you want.

For this application a generic relay would be acceptable to me - but you need a single pole double throw relay.
