Thanks for that. Since yours in October. Mine must be November then.

So November it is.

Thanks everyone.

The closest number to yours, in this thread, is Andy's in post no 2. His 87 is #687 according to his signature, and his sticker says Oct 86. I think yours is most likely Oct 86 rather than Nov.

I agree it's most likely November, but that's still not definitive...
To be certain, need to find two on either side of yours in the same month.
I think there's still a chance that yours could be at the end of October.
There are LOTS of 87's around. Hopefully some others will respond...

Edit: apparently Jerry types faster than me...

Yes, with Andy's production number of 687 and since mine is 667 (20 cars ahead) and there is also a vin 0289 in October. Mine is October.

Thanks all.

Yes, but the production number on Andys car is 687, his vin will be higher. The production number on mine is 667, vin 0727.

Hmm...I though the last four digits of the VIN are the production number.

How did you determine that Andy's number is production versus VIN?

In addition I am finding myself being doubtful that VIN 0289 was built in October 86. That tends to suggest that there were nearly 500 928s built in October, and only less than 289 or so built from the start of the model year in July through September. That is highly implausible. I can see the human factor coming into play here:

Hey, Hank, some guy in the states needs a new sticker and I got his VIN, but where do I find the production date? OK, Schmitty, you can find it in the big box on the top shelf in the warehouse, or you can just put down something like October 86. That will be pretty close. He will never know the difference.

I guess Andy could confirm, but in his signature it says #687, I'm guessing that's the production number.

For me it's close enough. Your right even if I got one from Porsche who knows if it will be correct.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
