I have an intermittent bad injector. I don't know how to figure which one. They have been cleaned (Witch Dr) recently however the one bad one won't clear itself out for about 150 miles of highway driving. Sometimes it's not a problem at all. My guess is that it's just worn out. Also I'm guessing that this will cause this one cylinder to run lean thus creating a catastrophic problem.
I only use Chevron gas and a bottle of Techron every few tanks will help but this is a bandaid solution.
Until I can get new injectors from GB or ? I should just park it?
Something even cheaper is to buy a noid light and touch it to each injector to see which one is not firing correctly.
Or the cheapest option is to pull the plugs and inspect them to see which one has been running lean.
The Noid light won't detect a faulty injector.
It will only tell you if the electrical signal is at fault that triggers the injector.
Cleaning old injectors is OK, however there is nothing that compares to a fresh set of NEW Injectors, especially if you upgrade to a newer type, like three or four hole.
Injectors are wear items IMO.
Edit: if you are seeking a "short term" solution, figure out which one(s) of the eight are not working correctly and replace them w/known good ones, and save up for a new set.
That's what I did when three of mine were actually leaking on the Gold car, the new set of four hole w/ rebuilt MAF made all the difference in acceleration.
The spark plug and or IR gun are great suggestions to tell.
Don't get the cheap one, the area measured is too large unless its very close. The bigger ones tend to have a narrow focus allowing spot temps.
I got the HF 29.95 special maybe 4-5 years ago, accurate, impressive range, pinpoint. YMMV!
And Mr Bailey is correct, they are a gas to play with- I can't believe how often I use it. And serious stuff, too- brake rotor temps, wheel bearings, radiator, wiring hot spots, are the ashes in my fireplace really dead etc etc
