Latest tire options for 16" phone dials?
Time for new tires.
I have been casually monitoring reports of difficulties finding tires for 16" phone dials. What's the current information?
Last time I bought tires was in '09 at a Walmart during some downtime on a road trip (SLC), Goodyear Eagles. I am not unhappy with them, but I've not experienced anything else either. I don't want to spend a ton of money.
I do not track the car. 60%+ of my miles are of the boring freeway type of driving, and another 35% just around town. The remainder is just for fun on twisties.
What's the best for what I do? Should I expect to have to order these? I've not checked Walmart or Costco yet.

The 245x45x16 used on the rear of the S-4 on an 8 inch rim is the rare size now...the 225x50x16 the CORRECT size for 7 inch rims is pretty easy. Tire Rack for example lists 61 different choices !!!

This is all great news, and a big relief.
I should add weather conditions. Mostly dry (19" of rain is normal for us) occasionally high heat (105+) and rarely snow (when I go to the family cabin in the sierras).

many of the "high performance" tread pattern tires are M and S rated due to the deep cuts and grooves that LOOK cool also they tend to SOUND like snow tires especially as they wear. There are so many choices but good news is those "small" tires are pretty inexpensive. I mean Michelin Pilot sport tires with very high wear rating for less than $140 each. Fusion tires for $60.

Consumer Reports New Car Ratings & Reviews (June 2014) includes a look at summer and all season tires including UHP models. Seven different companies made a CR recommended summer tire while five manufacturers offer an 'approved' all season product. Although available size ranges are not included in the scoring charts, handling, comfort and such characteristics as rolling resistance is. A quick look at both tire types suggests that the Michelin Pilot is a safe bet as are the Pirelli P Zeros. I was pleased to see that my recent choice of low - cost Cooper Zeons also made the all season list.

He does not need and should NOT use 245 tires on his 7 inch rims....they look funny being pinched in at the rim and actually handle WORSE than the correct 225 width tires. But yes someone does make 245 x 16 and those with 8 or 9 by 16 rims can use them

86 with Bbs rims
I need a new set of rears now 255//50/16 only one option is avaliable. The 245/50/16 seems to have more options, the 255 is pretty stuffed in their, what will the 245 do to the looks and compatabilty to what I have for the rims and front tires? Any other options avaliable I do like the larger tire I now have and a little concerned about going to a different size.
