if it does it while driving without any exterior lights on, it could be a brake pad wear sensor going bad. I say this from experience as every tail light, brake light, marker light, and license plate light ave been replaced with new matching nickel based bulbs, it was not untill I replaced the pad sensors did I stop getting the "!" light,

The 82 I just bought does this, but only on acceleration, even 1/2 throttle acceleration. Sometimes the high temp light comes on with it, but the temp gauge is at normal level. I haven't done any ground cleaning yet.

Page 31 of the 1984 Owners Manual shows where to look for the coolant light in the cluster.

Don't know what is setting off your ! light, but it is almost always connected to one of the sensor warning lights.
