Default Sticking throttle

Hello,
I just aquired a 1980 928. I have a laundry list of needed things but I have all winter living in WI. My first issue is after I release the gas pedal the engine does nor return to idle. The throttle cable has slack in it as do the other 3 cables. I can push the lever back (not sure what the name is) and it returns to idle. I sprayed the linkage area with WD40 but that did not help. Any ideas?

Return spring? It the shaft bent?

Those are the first things that come to mind.

Where are you? There's a few of us scattered around the state.

a sticking throttle is usually caused by a fraying wire going to the pedal ,

pull the housing out of the grommet on the firewall and look at the cable

Thanks for your suggestions. I found it! After I removed all the cabled from that mechanism I figured it had to be that assembly. There was a mouse nest jammed in the butterfly. After I cleaned all that out it Works perfect! It took me about 2 hours to pull all that apart, clean and reassemble. The air filter was missing and I guess the mouse was able to get through and he build himself a nice little house in there. It runs way better too. I'm on to exhaust. It's missing from the Cat back more or less. I saw a Borla cat back for $550. I may go with that unless you guys have a suggestion. After that it's mostly cosmetic. Or so I think.

I've found that since I stopped driving the 928 on a regular basis, mice love the damn thing. Get some moth ***** and put them around the car to keep them away.

Also try a bounce dryer sheet, as that seems to keep them away inside and out. I guess they don't like the smell.

I assume I will not have a problem as the issue was with the old owners garage not mine. But maybe just for piece of mind I will do it anyway.

If it's parked for the winter, a clump of steel wool in the exhaust is a good idea.
"Critter guards" on the intake funnels are a good idea too. I just cut some hardware cloth and bent the sides over to hold it in place.
OTR18Wheeler (Farris) made some very nice ones out of gutter topper. He posted pics somewhere.
