Angry street racing, I lost !

Just a boring Friday night and whats there to do? Lets catch a race.On the way to the scene where everyone hangs out some kid pulls up next to me and revs the weed whacker up.Ok its time to play.Hes got a simple looking car , a lowered Honda CRX that looks all stock but the exhaust but you never know.We start out about 20 mphs and take off i redlined second (6000rpms)to pull about a car and half away but he was still coming strong so i hit third i tried to keep the rpms up between 4500 and 5000 when i shifted and it seemed to work but at this time the kid pulls next to me(my thought was a sleeper)ok its time to work i get third gear up to about 100 + and i pulled a little over a cars length. Now its time to shift into fourth and leave him but what happens, the shifter gets jambed and i cant get into fourth so blows by me and puts his hazards on indicating he won. After we stopped and chatted just what i thought a sleeper(euro typeR with drag cams and 125 shot of juice) until next time

Before someone (we know who) has a chance to chirp in. We are sure Lou meant to say they were racing on a legal like drag strip.

Lou its ok to loose as long as you learn. Get more power, and stop janmbinggg. Time to huff.

Lou, it sounds like you had fun. You just never know with those cars, but it does seem like 80% of them just throw on the coffee can and drive like their rally racing.

No Moral judgement from me but whew is it just me or does it feel like this post could heat up.

Anthony,

I used to drive my friends 88' convertible and it was fun to drive around town. There's always that ole' school vette itch. But of course could never be a replacement. lol

let me say this differently (All stunts were done by Profesionals on a closed street please do not try this at home)so go to a different town and try it.
Philip thats why they call it street racing its a whole lot more fun than at the track.
SharkFan, yes it was fun Saturday is another day.

Sorry Lou, didn't mean to try and hijack your thread. I'm glad you put the disclaimer in, although I don't think some will buy it .

I just wanted to point out that you were trying to race a car with a curb weight of under 2000 lbs and easily over 120 hp (not counting the NOS and the engine modifications - stock 1.6i engine produced 135 hp, but those are very rare)

Generally, in my HO racing on a street is a rather iffy way of spending ones time. I don't care about the legality of it but what if you hit some unlucky guy? It’s definitely not worth it

Some of those CRX's have been pumped to 500 HP on superchargers, nitrous, etc....
Not reliable, but with a tiny car, look out! It does not sound like he had all that power,
but even with a regular engine on NOS, it could do pretty well, because it is
such a light car...

Hey - this is bad, too....a local fellow shark owner got dusted by a Cayenne S (NON Turbo) on the highway here last week!!!
He said that when the pepper's driver waved - he thought he was acknowledging the car...only to realize the guy was saying BYE BYE!

They both nailed it at about 25, and the pepper walked away from him!

Street racing is a bad idea. A nice thing about driving a 928 is I don't have to race anyone. Even if I lost, do they think I would want to trade cars with them? Ignoring those little ricers is a worse snub than beating them. Most of them could probably beat me from traffic light to traffic light anyway, but if they wanted to race say, from Dallas to Phoenix, that would be a different matter!

Say what you want about the Cayenne, but everyone I know that has driven one thinks they are frikkin' awesome. One Lawyer friend of mine has a 1997 993 and the Cayenne, and he thinks he might just get rid of the 993. He likes driving the Cayenne more. Oh, and it's not even a Turbo.
