It can actually be a PITA if you don't have a good set up.

I can do my Explorer with out any "lifting"..it has the clearance underneath.
Our Escape the same thing.. Other cars i can park at the bottom of our sloped driveway and slide underneath.

Point being..everyone has a different approach to it that works for them.

Me..i run it dry ...then i dont have to drain anything.

How do folks do the filter if they are not jacking their car up?
Plus there is the oil plug magnet to inspect.

Me..I run it dry ...then i don't have to drain anything.

You are driving a Porsche, not a Ford, get a good filter.

I use the siphon on my wifes mercedes and hope to never see the oil pan plug, but on the 928 I use the drain plug since it's right next to the oil filter. And I'll only use a Mann/Mahle/Wix filter.

NOO!!! I meant it's "Stupid" that there is not a cut out or a hatch in those underbelly pans.... so, yes, I agree with you and what was done.. Nice work!!

get a good filter!!! all you need is a fram failure, to clog the very delecate oil passages and you lose an engine... to what, save 4 bucks.. are you insane!! use the Mahle filter and call it a day. skip one lunch to pay for it in 6 months!

as far as the pump, you don't get all the oil, and the last little bit , is where all the dirty stuff is, and that wont get pumped out. (plus as was said, the magnet should be cleaned, although I never have any thing stuck to it)

oh yeah, I forgot about that! thank God (and Porsche) for the drain plug magnet. remember, I would see a tooth stuck to the magnet and then go up top to see where it came from ...... as soon as two adjacent teeth were found, I pulled the cams

I hear you, but for the Ford truck, a Motorcraft filter at Wal Mart is still $19.95 vs $24 at Advance Auto. I am all about saving money, as I have 15 quarts of oil to then buy for the truck

So the Wix Filter, what's the PN?

It'll be in the book. I don't know it offhand. There's only one filter for all years.

But, if you are "all about saving money" (in a reasonable manner), then the oil filter from Roger will be about 2/3 the price of the Wix. Obviously you will be paying for shipping, but chances are you need other stuff from him too. Combine it in a bigger order and the shipping costs (per item) go way down.

I changed the oil in the Chevy today in about 10 minutes. Pretty easy.

Got the 928 on the lift, and no belly pans... Hmm...

Excuse the ignorance here, as I don't have one on my '82, but why not just remove the Belly Pan? Is it that much of a PITA to take off?

I used to have a Volvo XC with a belly pan that covered the entire lower engine. Probably weighed 10 pounds and I'd need to hold it up with old cat litter containers because it was so awkward.

But, I removed it the two times a year that the oil needed to be changed, and went through the 10 minutes of fuss to take it off and put it back on.
