I've wondered about this- stands to reason that, due to time and deterioriation especially on cars with fluid seepage, the resilience on the SB bushes will be degraded. But, installing a new set with attendant spilttting of the bushing always makes me wonder whether ground is gained, lost, or its a stalemate from the R&R.
I wonder if I am being crazy.
I just spent a few hours cleaning and painting parts that are under the car that no one will ever see... My wife told me I have a problem and that I was. Crazy spending all that time on something no one will ever see.
I had a moment of brilliance and countered with saying " but you spend all that some moving furniture to sweep under it and no one ever sees under there.... "
She then reassured me I will have plenty of time in the garage tonight to work on whatever I want..... Cause I'm sleeping in there tonight

You're not alone, as I'm doing the same before I replace the intake manifold. Gives one a certain sort of satisfaction.
BTW: before you refit the TB assembly, put some spray lube into the butterfly spindle bushings and the othe 'actuator' bushing. Mine moves lots more easily now. (Yes everyone - I know that thingo is bent

If you have the pan off, and don't mind a bit of grinding, it's always nice to grind off the casting flash at the bottom of the oil return galleries from the block. These galleries are the return for the oil that tends to pack in the heads and removing the flash allows the hot oil to dump into the sump better. Use a full face shield when grinding with a drmel tool.
Also, at the front of the oil pan, you will find the small triangle oil level sensor plate. It is a constant source of leaks. Remove it, and test the sensor wire bore with some mineral spirits. If it leaks through(it will), try to seal it with some rough sandpaper followed by silicone or maybe JB Weld. Then use a new gasket and/or Yamabond to make it oil tight and reinstall.

As a used car dealer and an avid collector, I use the KISS principle. If you open it up and IT NEEDS THE WORK, you do it. If not, don't look for something extra to do. When I just did my motor mounts I realized that it was the time for the oil pan gasket. While that was out I repaired some frayed wires I had to take out of the way anyway. While the pan was off I cleaned it( it needed very little) and I checked the rods and caps. Now I am into doing the rear trans mounts too. Slippery slope.

thanks doc...
i am waiting on the gts kit from greg brown so i will do these other WYAIT.
i am also repairing the plastic housing on the alternator. the round section that the large cooling air hose hooks to is cracked and broken.
I am going to do a little epoxy/glass work.. should fix her better than new.

Got the gts baffle kit today
VERY day to install..
Simple lay the baffle on the rear end of the sump and mark the holes.... Drill and tap the holes and viola... Only cost about $40.00
Now I get to start putting everything back together
