Looks like Maverick dressed to blend in with the crowd (at 1:28).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-oRytEEu4k#t=89
Are there really this many sponsors for this car?
Looks like a few 928s showed up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-oRytEEu4k#t=89
and even the Porsche Club of America featured the Gulf Blue 928 on it's National web site...

Don't you know that Bright Orange Flight Suit is Ex-Con Outlaw Chic and style to match the Gulf Blue and Orange Livery of the over the top 928? LOL!
When you come to a National PCA Event like this with a Bad Reputation like the one I have Randy V. you've got to "Own It"!
As for sponsorship of the 928?
No.
In reality...
There aren't "that many sponsors" for the car but I didn't need to be "sponsored" to do my thing the way that I wanted to do it.
However, Since the Werks Reunion Event I did "pick up" Michelin (which came over to me "all blended into the crowd" and conducted an interview)
and Adidas as sponsors Randy V.
But much to my surprise they both really loved what I did with the Gulf Blue 928 (and a few others from my collection) and they gave me some corporate swag and sponsorship.
Of course, not everyone will like it
(some have already expressed how "gaudy" it is) but it is what it IS.

Yes SeanR; I'd like that and thanks for the Olive Branch offering.
I'm a born and raised Texan and so I come home to the Lone Star state a few times a year so don't be surprised if I come looking for you to shake hands and grab a cold one
You're right about Eckman as I have 3 boxes of Bob's notes and dyno sheets and racing records and compelling 928 Files (as he called them), receipts and such that was given to me when I bought the car in question in pieces and in boxes from Red McClintok.
The person that started this thread asking about the cars "history"
(who I strongly suspect as the actual FRAUDULENT NIGERIAN AUTOMOTIVE TUNING shop) trying to UNLAWFULLY lien my car is the one behind this thread about the 928's history". (but I can't be for sure)
But everything from Bob's paperwork with Bank of America who financed the car for him in 1978; to notes and letters between Bob and Eckman and the early formation of DEVEK.
VERY COOL STUFF for 928 nuts!
As for what is true and factual about me goes?
After almost 10 years of Internet lore and legend being spread UNCHECKED about me much of it is cemented in the hearts and minds of our fellow 928'ers and can't be reversed at this point I'm affraid SeanR.
However, being the resident "928 Outlaw" in the community may not be a bad thing at this point in the game.
Considering my body of work and how the "OUTLAW" cult is spreading fast in Porsche circles with guys like Mangus Walker and others who are doing "their own thing" and making the word "OUTLAW" in vogue in the Porsche social network.
I guess I have "some kind" of legendary controversial status in the mix!
As I'm sure you can imagine SeanR; my "Bad Reputation" precedes me!
SO IN ACTUALITY IT'S NO QUESTION I'M THE BIGGEST "OUTLAW" IN (or out of) THE 928 CLICK THAT IT HAS EVER SEEN! LOL
But in it's retrospect SeanR it's ALL OLD NEWS and hype mixed in with lies and truths are a powerful combination indeed.
Abet, no one likes a thief and a low life among them in a social circle who is a threat to them in any way.
I have to take full responsibility for my falling out with Marcus H. over (the purchase or alleged theft of) his slant nose 928.
It was a remarkable car and Marcus had done a wonderful job customizing it and I wanted to buy it.
We had a deal and I had given him $5,000 in payment for the Porsche and he let me take it to inspect it...
but when I did I discovered the car had several issues that maybe Marcus didn't know about.
When I brought it to his attention he said I must have damaged it.
That's when things began to spiral out of control 10 years ago.
He began to paint me as a car thief...
crafting this BRILLIANT "Wanted Poster to spread his side of the story...
and really trumping me for the fallout that we had.
In my defense...
I had told a few "white lies" to smear him as he was doing the same to me...
and it just became a MESS of a situation.
Honestly, I was WRONG.
I felt Marcus was doing me WRONG.
I didn't treat Marcus H. right and he didn't take it laying down.
I didn't hold up my end of the deal and Marcus H. being the CRAZY Pure A$$ Hole Aussie that he was (and still is I'm sure) did his thing on me.
That man spread me out all over the Internet every which way you can! LOL!
Hell, I think it wrote the thesis on the: "The Book of Maverick"
Frankly, I didn't even know anything about the Internet in 2005 until Marcus H. "introduced" me to it with a vengeance! LOL
That man drubbed on me and gave the the "internet smack down" of the 21st Century!
I learned a LOT from him (as well as myself in the cathartic process) and that's the TRUTH.
Simply, (as complex as the issues are) I was WRONG and...
I just feel at this point I have to live with it.
Mind you, I DO NOT condone all of the underhanded dirty devious tricks and lies and propaganda Marcus H. employed to make his point!
By now you've seen some of the crap that's out there about me SeanR and 99% of it is NOT flattering or TRUE.
But it's that 1% that makes the 99 have its power, value and gravity of preconceived scope of validity.
Now I won't go on and on here SeanR making my side of the saga known but I did want to thank you for giving me the chance to address it here and for you having somewhat of an open mind in allowing me to do so.
I truly hope that adds some clarity for you and others on how I came to have such an "Billy Bad A$$ Car Thief / Con Man Reputation"!
As One of my Heroes The Great Mohammed Ail once said: " I'm A Bad Man! I Shook Up The World!"
I guess in some sort of crazy bizarre way with my controversial Internet persona and my many wild custom 928's from my collection and so many stories and lore and legends about me allegedly ripping people off and going to car shows and winning with these 928's over and over that I shook up the crazy mixed up Porsche 928 world too! LOL!

928 OUTLAW AND BAD MAN MAVERICK
Alright, ya sold me on this.
One thing I've always wondered about was why you never came forward to defend yourself. With the combination of the slant nose campaign, the stories and the eventual liquidation of the warehouse full of cars and memorabilia I'm sure you can see why others (like myself) have had the feelings about you and the name attached to these cars. Left a bad taste so thank you for coming forward and taking the time to explain the entire story. It's a shame that it has taken almost 10 years for this to happen.
You do seem to have quite the vision for the "outlaw" set on the 928. I've thought most of them looked tacky as hell, but I've had the same thing said about my car so I know where you are coming from on that. Personal taste.
Accept my apology for furthering the **** on your name. Stop in for that beer when you are Tx.

I've been tinkering in the garage too much, this thread got interesting.
Reading Maverick's posts remind me of my Son's comic books.
Not that they are comical but they carry a drama and complexity that makes me scratch my head a bit.
I live in Philly (now the burbs) and have run into many that have tried to scam me in one way or another over many years and
I've got to say my radar is going off a lot while reading Maverick's words.
but who cares.. he's interesting and i wasn't there to know what really went on.
Welcome aboard Maverick !

Very interesting thread...
So Maverick, what is the story behind the Devore race car?
In particular, why is it currently in the possession of this shop?
Just curious how exactly that came about...

I didn't defend myself out of hubris and wild disbelief that all of the crap was being spread so far and wide about me man...
I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT MY DAMN SELF!
Nevertheless, I'm honored that you've given me the greater benefit of the controversial doubt at this time!
It truly means a lot to me SeanR.
Looking forward to seeing you down there in the Lone Star State for a round of cold ones!

I'll address it here once the court rules on the matter in which a preliminary injunction and a restraining order has been filed against the owners of this unlicensed Nigerian Automotive Shop.
Enough said.

Your post gave me a good hardy LOL chuckle!
But thank you for your insights on attempted scams being run on you and your take on me and my post and reputation being "interesting".
Most of all Matt, thanks for welcoming me on to the board!

Bob DeVore
http://928oc.org/928oc_928s4vr/devore.htm
Excellence magazine featured his Porsche 928 in the August 1990 edition, article titled Arizona Highwayman. http://www.excellence-mag.com/issues/22
Bob DeVore was a manufacturing manger at Intel Corporation in Chandler, AZ. As I recall, he was killed in an automobile accident in California, he was a passenger in a friend's newly constructed Cobra kit car and the drive shaft came loose.

Thanks Rich. I appreciate that. I remember all of that from the past (early days).
I am actually curious about the more recent past regarding Bob's race car.
(how it came into Maverick's possession, and now apparently to this repair garage).
I guess we'll have to await the completion of the litigation to hear more of the story...

The car has been left sitting in this garage for years left there and the owner, has not return phone calls to the shop owner that's where I found it knowing nothing about it. Would like to find out the history if anybody does know about it I did see the picture, that it is Bob Devores Old car. Does it have a race history is he the one who still owns it and has not contacted the shop owner, trying to find out these details before I get too involved in it. The owner may realize it's there now and either come pick it up or have it finished not sure if he doesn't I wouldn't mind having it in my collection.

Another hard and fast rule is that you be the owner of the car you're selling. May I assume you can prove ownership provenance to the satisfaction of the state within which you are offering the car for sale?
Thanks. If you want to discuss privately, feel free to PM me, and we can chat via phone.
On a completely separate note, the state of CA does provide for a lien sale of personal cars(I don't know what automotive "real" property is, but I do know what "real" property is, and it isn't a car). The instructions and regs can be found in CA Civ code section 3071. I have sold, and also bought cars through the lien sale before, and successfully defended a title issued. The process is moderately complex, and should be followed to the letter. Anyone else working toward a lien sale in the state is encouraged to get civil advice to follow the letter of the code.
