A few of the local Berkeley high end restoration shops told me that they prefer Brad Penn oil. I don't want to get into a massive oil discussion but because it has a high zinc content and a semi synthetic, would this be a viable product for our cars?
I think it's about $9 per qt. I had not heard of this oil before.

Yes it's fine for our cars, I've use it.
It's not 100% synthetic, that bothers some people. It's base is Pennsylvania Crude Oil.
One of our local engine builders who has his own engine dyno (used it to test many oils) recommends it for the Corvette race engines he builds for my friends team.
$9 a quart is expensive though, I've never paid more than $6.

OUR HISTORY
In 1997, American Refining Group, Inc. (ARG), a privately held energy company headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, purchased the Kendall/Amalie refinery located in Bradford, PA, from Witco Corporation. As a result of the sale by Witco, of the Kendall® and Amalie® brands to a third party, a new name was given to the products produced at the site: Brad Penn® Premium Pennsylvania Grade Lubricants. Founded in 1881 at the height of the domestic oil boom, the Bradford refinery is the only refinery processing 100% Pennsylvania Grade crude oil. It is also the oldest continuously operated lube oil refinery in the world. Due to the consistency of our feedstocks, the quality of our products can be traced from the wellhead to the finished packaged product. ARG's refinery and blending and packaging operations are ISO 9001:2000 certified. The Bradford refinery was the first in the United States to carry the ISO 9002 certification.

Same here.
I use it in my GT, the 911 and my '84 GTI. I started using it a number of years ago when M1 took the zinc out of their 15W50. It was recommended to me by Steve W. at Rennsport Systems in Portland. I know the zinc is back in the M1, but I don't care. I'm sticking with BP.
The price has gone up in the past year or so. It appears to be in the $6/qt range +-.
Does anyone switch to their 15W40 for the colder months?
