Default Photo of where the jack goes?

The recent talk about jacks had me look in the back where the spare and equipment panels are in my 1988 S4. No jack. No air pump. Hmmm. Didn't know they were gone when I bought this thing.

So I have an great small air pump that will work, but I don't know where the jack and its felt pouch are supposed to go once I buy a replacement. Anybody got a photo? I'm sure its jammed into the rear passenger area in front of the bolt that holds the rear light assembly. I just didn't know how it's supposed to be positioned.

Thanks
Brian

The factory jack is thin, and when in the felt bag it fits behind the tool panel where you had mentioned. No specific fastening - just fits in that one given place - just manipulate for the best fit.

is this true for pre-87 cars? Mine (all 3) were always stuffed under the spare, in the felt bag.

While others are jacking around, here's where the jack is located on my '90 model.

FWIW there is a rubber snap strap thats made for holding the jack in position,
if you look carefully you will find the small curved hooks behind the tool tray one on the floor and the other is above the floor

Ah ha. I've seen the bottom clip (for the strap) and wondered what it is for, I assume there is a top fastener also, have to take a look! I'm on an anti-rattle campaign now and this is good info- thanks, Stan!

On "euro" cars, and also tourist-delivery USA cars, that rubber strap and hidey hole aren't for the jack at all. We get a warning triangle which folds up and stows in there, and the jack has to live in the spare.

Perhaps this explains why my manual says the jack is in the spare, though my car is not euro or tourist-delivery.
