God help me, what have I done...

In case you chose option #1, putting a TH-350 auto with a torque converter (and the subsequent torque multiplication it provides) along with a 928 5 speed trans "locked" into 5th gear, seems like it would kill parts inside the manual trans pretty quick. No? I would at least take a look inside the 5 speed before spending a ton of money trying to reverse retrofit it back to stock. I mean who knows if the thing even ran with this set-up??

Subscribing.
We are all waiting for pics now!
Although this thread looks way more tame than that guy that dropped a 928 motor into a DeLorean.
What did that Hindenburg guy say?
"Oh the humanity!"

Heck, why stop at combinatorials. Lets use permutation and we can get up to 18 speeds! (P3;3) Of course, order dependence doesn't change the gear ratios, but were having fun now!

Hey guys, original poster here. Had to change usernames due to a technical issue with which I won't bore you. Sorry for the long radio silence. Life, work, kids, etc.
Couple of pics attached: two of the car, engine (and TH350 trans) out. The black motor is the one that we found in the car - a malaise-era 305 with a miserable 140HP new (according to the numbers on the crankcase). Orange motor is the new one - built 327, bench dynoed at 340HP, 400LB-FT. Which is, well, more.
As to the original install - the less said, the better. There were big rusty bolts anchored in the footwells, supporting a transmission mount made of what can only be described as pig iron. To adapt to the Chevy exhaust manifold, the factory Y-pipe in the exhaust was bent further upward with some sort of flat, blunt object - rock, maybe? - with the net effect of reducing flow by at least 75%. The original torque tube was sawn off about 3/4 of the way back and yoked to a custom driveshaft U-joint - which, i have to say, was a pretty impressive piece of machining - you know, if you ignorre the crazy.
So, it's all upward from here.

I had a solid lifter 327 in an old 'vette- Keeping the waterpump gaskets from migrating on the front motor mount bracket was a PITA. What are you going to do for the front motor mounts for the 327 in the 928?

Planning to use the mounts sold by Renegade Hybrids, out of las Vegas. Have not had similar water pump gasket issues in the past with small blocks, but I will read up on it. Thanks.
