Default CV boots for 78

These are the wrong boot, right? Seem way to small to fit in the joint.

I cant imagine how I can get those suckers over the joints. seem way to narrow in diameter.

I dont have the number. It is a manual tranny.

Removing the shafts on a 911 is pretty easy but looks like I have to remove some suspension/exhaust stuff to get them off on the 928?

The regular 928 boot does not fit the early 78's. Check with Roger. I have had to replace both sides, and the correct boot for the early 78's is a 911 boot. Roger was the one who told me that when my mechanic could not get the ones he ordered to fit. So I had Roger ship the correct ones. I will look for the part number and post it here.

Here you go - from my last order (this was for one shaft only, you will need to double up to do both sides):

2 901 332 293 12 CV Boot - Early
4 930 332 297 00 CV Joint Gasket
2 928 332 257 00 Small Clamp - Early
2 999 512 486 00 Large Clamp - Early

Depends if they have CV bolts at both ends of the axle or just one end and a splined shaft at the other.

Didn't realize some 1978s had spline ended shafts. Thought that came in around 1982.

Greg,
I was pointing out the point at which the part numbers for the boots change.
Depending if ROW or USA/CAN change happened late 79 through to 80.

The cv axles come out easily, btw....especially if you do not have the splined shafts.

I just did this job and have done many CV boots over the years.

They look ridiculously small but should fit. Be sure to use the proper banding for clamps, the screw clamps included with most boot packages are junk

Issue with older cars is that they may not have the original/ correct for that year axles.

My 79 had original on one end and a splined unit on the other end. Spent allot of time on the phone with Roger when I did mine as a result before getting the right boots.
