Cant get the dammed joints off of the axle. removed the clips and have been hammering away. Any ideas are much appreciated......

So sometime after leaving the factory someone had replaced one axle with a later setup?

If the joint is stuck, use a gear puller. Mine had different axles as well. I had to scrounge for a stub shaft and axle so I had a matching set to rebuild

Vice, hammer and torch for 15 mins. One has budged 2mm. will soak it in wd 40 overnight and torch and hammer again tomorrow. Oh, the joy of old cars

dont wail on it to hard. i would soak and try the puller. i had one that was super stuck and did the heat/puller trick. and don't heat it up to much, don't want to mess up the metal.
