Default So, I took my Shark to my indy...

...yesterday to have the CV boots done and to get an estimate on matching and repainting where the rub strips were removed. This was a prearranged appointment, the parts were in, the whole thing was expected to be done by lunch time.

End of the day: Nothing. I call to get an update and I don't get a call back.

This morning, I get a call from Charlie (the service manager) who says, "Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, but we're having some problems here."

At this point, I think he's about to tell me that they pulled the halfshafts and the transmission fell out. But no...

"First thing in the morning, the shop compressor died, so we were running around trying to deal with that."

Yeah, that kind of stinks, since everything is pneumatic. But, he's not done...

"Then, Fred, who's worked here for twenty years, didn't show up. After a while, someone went to check on him and found him dead at his kitchen table."

Holy crap!

"So, things were kind of crazy here yesterday. But, I think we'll be able to get your car done today."

Take you time with it, Charlie. I've got other cars...

That's close to an all-time record in the bad day department.

Not care related, but I had a similar incident with a staff member. He didn't show up for work, but I was travelling, so people assumed he was on vacation. When I got back, I had HR check - he was dead in his seat at home, and had been for a while...

Sorry to hear-and your attitude is what mine would have been.

About 10 years ago one our tech reps at Nikon didn't answer his phones or emails. We landed in San Francisco for a trade show and his boss went over to his apartment, got the landlord to open the door, he apparently had been dead a few days-appears he got out of the shower and collapsed with a massive heart attack. Rigor mortis left him in an odd position on the floor, sadly. Not the way I want to be found.

Yeah - that's rough. Those big compressors are costly to replace.

The empathy is overwhelming.

Sorry about Fred.

Not to digress, but I'm still surprised to find myself among folks that can casually allude to having other cars. Guess it has become more of a norm maybe. And certainly different from my early circumstances.
I was prepared to roll eyes, but glad you have some pros that give the straight scoop and that it seems you can rely on, that's almost mythology in its own right in my recent experience.

At least Fred had someone that missed him. Have a cousin that passed and it was so long before anyone found him that his dog, a doberman found curled up next to him had passed from starvation.
