Default Thinking to change interior color before sale (87 S4)

My dad's had his '87 S4 for a few years now, and he goes through phases of wanting to sell it or keep it. It's black ext with burgundy interior. For some reason, we don't get any (serious) inquiries whenever we post it. So we concluded it must be the interior color, because with options like 220 and 474, 5-speed, low miles (90k), it can't really be anything else.

We have the opportunity to get an entire black interior for a fair price, in the hopes that a black/black car will sell more easily.

Question #1 for the 928 meisters here is, is it sacrilegious to change a "rare/special" car like this?

Question #2, does anyone here want a black/burdundy S4 before we change it?

TIA!

Do you have any pictures? A burgundy interior works well with some exterior colors, but I am not sure black is among them. I think certainly back/black would be more attractive in the market but it all comes down to dollars-- what the interior swap would cost versus the likely boost in sales price, and that is anybody's guess.

Pics would help make a more informed comment on your issue, but I would think that combination you have probably looks very smart in addition to being a 'special'.

I think that you're right - a black / black car will have a larger market. However, changing the interior won't be cheap either, so it may not make financial sense. I personally wouldn't buy with a burgundy interior, but would with a black one though. GLWS

Here's a shot of the interior.

I think half of it is that this particular interior isn't in prime condition, which shows poorly in this color.

You're right, burgundy doesn't seem a natural choice for black ext; it would look better with white or silver paint. But regardless, burgundy just isn't my taste, so I can't really judge it.

Dash cover, yuk.

Two tone black and red is very popular right now.

Though called a burgundy, I'd call it a watered down red wine in a box color. Not fond of it.
RKD's suggestion on black/red is popular. Good old black/black is your fall back position.

When you list it, how much are you asking? Does it have a current TB, WP etc?

Changing the interior just to sell is crazy IMO. Other factors like paint and maintenance are more of a factor.

I did a color change from blue on blue to champagne (tan). I located carpet, door and console cards, and the hand brake, amp and cruise control covers. I washed all the carpet carefully and refreshed the interior in an afternoon. I left the seats the same.

I'd shoot for lighter. Not sure if linen or champagne works but I am the last one to ask on color combos

I'll never understand this. Black on Black looks to me like an option-less, bare bones car.
I'm not saying it looks bad, I just don't understand why it's so popular.

Personally I love the burgundy interior, but I'm not buying another black car.

+1

Until we know this, it's hard to answer your question about why it's not selling.

HTML Code:

Well, price might have something to do with it.

HTML Code:
 does anyone here want a black/burgundy S4
I'm betting someone here does, but it depends on . . . .

Burgundy seems to be by far the most disliked interior color. It definitely reduces a cars marketability.

Or lack of price. Nothing makes me ignore an ad faster than the "make me an offer" comment.
