I can see a great benefit in having one of these with a 5 speed shifter boot ......................

You can pretend you're driving a far superior fully equipped by Porsche 5 speed, and won't have to admit it's really a 'let it do it for you' slushbox ...

Paul is getting his new shop up and running, so its been waiting until he is settled down. The original bushing had a lot of play in it, and rode on a piece of teflon tape that was applied to the shifter shaft. After looking at several of these shifters that were in the field for some time, I noticed that the tape was failing and even binding on some. I also saw separation between the cast **** and the bushing. I redesigned the bushing and constrained its rotational movement. I also used nylon guides to remove the tape, and included two nylon-tipped setscrews in the bushing to adjust the play and accommodate changes in shifter shaft dimensions. I also designed an additional insert to guide the lock-out actuator and reduce rattle, it also acts as a larger spring-seat. The springs were custom wound for what I think is optimal actuation pressure, and they were also ground flat on the top and bottom to avoid the side-loading the original cut spring had. There is an upper spring perch inside the **** which also further reduces any potential for rattle and keeps the spring square and linear throughout the range of travel.

I understand that Paul is getting close to starting on the cover and boot redesign.

pics of version 1.0, fyi: https://rennlist.com/forums/7002364-post1.html Actually, I suppose if the Haney version was 1.0 these prototypes were more 2.0

Noo..........????????

j/k, hoping that's a month as-in thirty days or so, great to see something rolling again, I almost went for a Jaeger to spare my grey-green orig, but would rather go this route if priced reasonably.

Hans, does the redesign work as a retrofit for the original or is does the redesign only apply to the new ones Paul is selling? I have an original and didn't know if these enhancements can be used. If so, can you PM me with some pricing and such?

I think the cup holder already covers that.

Yes, I have an original too and would love to know if an upgrade kit would be available. I understand the market would be tiny, but Hans' improvements sound great! I have an annoying rattle at about 2900-3000rpm which can grate on long trips. There is also some rotational play too but the rattle is more objectionable.

It was a complete re-design. The only thing from the original system retained was the outside shape, which is styled after the Momo Anatomic shift ****. Unfortunately there will be no upgrade path for the older *****.

I went the Jaeger route. I like it. The all leather version was a little buried on the website. I'd still consider trying this route, if it were made available at a reasonable price point.
