What is the difference between a metal oil filler neck and the plastic ones?
Why did they switch material?
Which is better and why so?

Metal us better if you are staying stock and pre-GTS. The plastic ones warp at the corners after a while and have to be replaced.

Interesting.
In my 86.5 I had a metal baffle and metal filler neck.
Wonder how and when they transitioned to plastic.

My 87 has a metal one, and it was original. Perhaps it depended on how deep they dug in the parts bin.

I just re-insatalled mine using the o-ring, paper gasket and Hondabond.
With all this, it should not leak. Hope so!

AFAIK, some time in MY'87 is when the metal necks ran out. Some early '87s have them. Usually, a metal neck comes with the early S4 intake.
