So my neighbor has been bitten by the bug by living in proximity to me.
I let him take mine out the other day (with some supervision), and what I noticed was that he was using the shift indicator system and creating a less then optimal experience LOL. We were, at one point, in fourth and going 35 mph.![nono](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/nono.gif)
So I started to think that I had never really used or paid attention to the light. It was always some cute reminder of 1980's technology, kind of like the giant buttons, that make my car my car.
I can't remember ever seeing the topic in the forum.
In the owner's manual the CASIS seems to indicate that you can increase fuel economy by shifting to a higher gear.
There is also a caveat that during maximum acceleration, the light will signal to indicate increased acceleration can be achieved in the next gear.
These two points would seem to be mutually exclusive.
Curious as to other thoughts within the forum, and if the computer assisted light remained on later models.

If you are referring to the amber pod light that comes on when it is time to shift to a higher gear, the intention is merely to indicate a min rev, when you may want to shift, thereby using less fuel.
It is kind of quaint I suppose, but observing that Tesla stock is currently over 230/share and the 918 utiliizes electromotive torque + battery technology to enhance both "go" and fuel economy, it ought to serve as a reminder how important the engineers in Stuttgart feel it is to use less carbon. Remember, the 928 was on the drawing board just following a major disruption to the oil supply in the 70s. Not that the amber light could do much about it, but it sure was an "indicator" of things to come.
Imagine how "quaint" carbon would be if we could (can
) break the photosynthesis process.

If my GTS had a shift light, it quit working before I ever got the car, and any reference to it was deleted from the Owner's Manual.
The shift light coming on later under hard acceleration may just be the light is taking too long to react with respect to how fast the revs are climbing. I would say you need to do some full throttle acceleration for "testing purposes."
