I'd like if engine looks stock, but those tubes are not at the same level of the rest of the car, imho...
I found a local foam supplier, he told me he sells a foam tube like that, but he's not sure about diameterat the phone told me about 80 mm .. it is a spare parts for Volvo excavators , those with 13 ft wheels....

Default Old thread revival

So to clarify…

Is the foam on the GTS tubes for intake noise or to keep the air cooler??

Why would you want that? The intake tubes - even when new - are the crappiest looking thing in the GTS engine bay by far - they look like complete #$@%! They must have been dreamed up by an accountant and approved by a drunken QA guy... really - don't ask me how I really feel!

Yes and it's about the second crappiest thing in the GTS engine bay (maybe...) It doesn't look particularly good - the stock hose is an odd slack material and the routing looks like an afterthought (which it was) but more importantly Porsche went to all the trouble to add an extra breather port and this balance hose - apparently in a successful bid to make the crankcase breathing even worse...

Agree with the first half of this - so why consider the second half... Plenty of options for better looking, cheaper, longer lasting and equally as functional parts (some are even stock Porsche parts).

Alan, I found then the foam that looks the same, so I rebuilt original intake tubes... I will post here the link of the process...

The cheapest solution is to get 3" brake duct. A common item and Jegs and Summit have it. It's high-temp and comes in a lot of colors. Not so fancy but works great. That insulation on the GTS tubes is for noise, btw.

10 feet is enough for two cars: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aa...2150/overview/

Depends on car. Is it driver or display item.

Not all GTS's had insulation.

Here's what mine had as stock. The plain sections at the rear are sand separators, and the rest looks OK. I've now replaced them with the Mercedes ones from Roger, and archived the others, which were very restrictive at the separator.

I don't think it looks that bad,and I want to keep my car original, if possible.

personally,I adore stroker engines and heavy modifications, but not on my car.I personally admire "pioneers" who put 6 speed engines, turbos, and so on and sweating for their great ideas....

I love my 928 like it is, buying a 928 to get more bhp and to modify it to get it more modern .....is not my personal view.

if I want more than a 928 can offer ,I buy something else that is "more" than a 928.

it is just that.

There were surprisingly many M317 For countries with dusty air option GTS made. 222 for six different countries and one C99 special order.

I agree its your choice, but you already highlighted that it is not the same quality as elsewhere - I agree and go further to say Porsche really 'cheaped out' on the last few years as focus shifted elsewhere - and they were just doing some sort of 'band aid' fixes.

To me totally authentic & good looking aren't at all the same thing.

My reasons for changing the tubes were:

1) I didn't see the value of the insulation for sound purposes (I can't tell)
2) They look awful IMO - even when new
3) They look a lot more awful when they are far from new (fall apart bad)
4) They are so badly made - I never wanted to reinstall such crap
5) They are really expensive to replace as stock items

I respect that you can come to a different conclusion for your car (even if you agree there are some issues) each to his/her own...

But you did ask... ... and I feel strongly this was another "B" team effort

They were made some years before for S4 and GT sold in Switzerland and made standard for GTS. Idea was specifically to make less intake noise. I would expect them to do that even though difference might be difficult to notice.
