I live in an area with an HOA and they have never commented on how loud my 81 is.

The neighbors do say they love the way it sounds , which I am sure is true for a lot of you guys too.

Who can't love the sound of a 928?

I did a ton of background work on the HOA before we signed the contract. Helps that the last owner of this house was a jerk (potential criminal) and that it's only about 14 houses and we're well run. With my travel, it's good for my wife to have everything from deck to lawn to roof covered by them.

Now about installing that lift in the garage...

My first place was in an HOA... in my very naive days.

Then, they got the place listed on the National List of Historic Landmarks. Made things orders of magnitude worse.

Errggghhh...

Example: Had some rusty screens... couldn't change them out because they were "historic."

Legions of elderly retired folks wandered the neighborhood looking for and photographing any real or perceived "violations."

I got on the board... but that was no help. No matter how small the issue, these geezers (I was the only board member under the age of 117) insisted on forming committees and subcommittees to "study" the issue forever and never get anything accomplished.

Never could get the burnt out light over my door fixed. That was in about 1988. I bet they are still studying it.

I've heard horror stories like this about HOAs, but I've lived in four neighborhoods with them over the years and never had a problem. That said, none of them were in California.

Most of them around here are mainly set up to fund common area maintenance and amenities like the neighborhood pool. There are some architectural standards and what not, but nothing over the top. I guess YMMV.
