How do I remove the saddle clamp? Or do I reseat them with them still in place? Anyone have a picture of what they look like off?

When you talk about the air cleaner thickness, mine is thicker than the previous K&N air filter. The Mahle part number is 928-110-185-03. It shows it is for a 1978-95 car. Is there is thinner option? My filter (on the edge thickness all the way around) is reading about 14mm thick.. seems odd to me. Any help here?

Thanks,
Bryan

I think they are talking about the mounts for the air filter housing. There is a bolt stubbing out with a rubber base. That base rubber portion should be 8mm.

Those air filter standoffs look way too thick as if they were from the earlier 16v cars. It also maybe the picture. The rubber standoff should only be 8mm thick.
Height wise the engine looks near perfect and will settle a little with some miles.

Agreed that the engine itself looks to be in the right place, fore-aft and vertically. Also agreed those airbox standoffs look too thick, though if they were way too thick, wouldn't his MAF not be fully inserted in the airbox bottom? Looks like it's ok to me, in the 1st picture.. (Unless the MAF isn't fully inserted in the elbow air guide...)

Also- those saddle clamps on the firewall are an enormous pain in the *** to get the tab fully bent flat. I R&R'ed the fuel return hardline on the GTS (for cosmetic reasons) and had airbox clearance issues until I got them fully seated.

Notice how the air box to MAF seal is now on the MAF and not on the air box. That could also cause the air box to sit higher if the seal was not on the air box lip correctly.

Bryan-

Ignore the caliper measuring, is this how your airbox MAF seal is attached?

Take the little airfilter standoffs off and out of the way. Then put airbox back on to see how it sits without them.

My rubber mounts which I mount the air filter housing to are 15mm thick.. not 8mm. How should I address this?

Also, here is my filter housing itself and the MAF. It appears as though the seal your referring to is currently on the MAF tube rather than on the bottom of my air filter mount... or am I missing another seal entirely?

Thanks for the help guys!

Roger's got the right rubber mounts /standoffs - 928 110 191 00

The seal is indeed sitting on the MAF. It needs to mount onto the aribox bottom. There's a lip around its outer diameter that clips over the circumference of the flange on the airbox base.

Buy some at your local Lowes type place for correct thickness. I have a thinner piece of rubber with a washer above and below for correct seating.

My MAF arrangement the same, and with good tight seal.

The rubber needs to go into the groove of the airbox so it attaches to the airbox
then push the airbox onto the MAF.This is a picture of the rubber into the groove even thou not a stock airbox;it shows how it should go in.

For your car, your rubber mounts which mount the air filter housing should be 8mm thick.
Like this.
This is the passenger side one.

Thanks for all the help.

I went out to look at my rubber mounts again and they are 15mm and screwed right off like the picture above. I could just trim them down to 8mm and out them back on... wouldn't that be fine?

Here's a pic.

Bryan,
I forgot to include this in my prior post about the rubber and the washers, but I had to do the same and I use a bolt from up top at the airbox to fasten and have the washer-rubber-washer fixed in below.

How are you going to trim them and still have the studs attached?
