Non sequitur, and maybe slightly (?) more Singer-related:
One of the trick pieces that I really dig on the Singer 911 is the modern polycarbonate lens headlights, which must have cost them a freaking fortune in the volumes that they're going to sell:
If one was building a Singeresque 928, I wonder whether these 7" H4 polycarbonate lenses could be adapted for 928 use. 1st problem is that they're Australian, so they might be for RHD only (?). And would take a lot of work to mount to a pair of 928-specific lamp frames.

I'll leave it at this, I have been in some nice cars, and none of them will come close to the acceleration or exhileration that I get on the R1. I have toyed in the past with ZR-1's and been equal with them on my suzuki and destroyed M5's with that bike and that bike is not near the R1. That's my experience in that area, but I don't go looking for that.
You just haven't been in the right cars then!
For reference. A new showroom stock 911 Turbo S is a "10 second car"
Watch this video and you will see how much easier it would be to get in the 10s with a car vs a bike.

Back to the Singer issue...
True, there are some out there that have a huge pile of disposable income and wouldn't blink an eye at buying a Singer... and then brag that they had a Singer.
I would think after the 'ooh & ahh' phase wore off, they would see the hand-woven basket weave patterned leather interior would have been a HUGE waste of money... and laser-etched leather would have accomplished the same visual and tactile uniqueness, where the remainder of the money could be spent for more performance; more handling; more audio; more anything else.
For me, customizing would involve ME in the creation -otherwise, it is made in the customizer's tastes. I wouldn't and won't buy a Singer anything for that reason.

One could create a 'clamshell ring' to mount the lens in and have it, in turn, be mountable to the 928 frame -with 3 attachment points for the buckets. Rather than the chrome ring seen on the '77-'85 cars, it could be body color and visually flow right into the body colored bucket.
Anybody got CNC or Waterjet experience and some spare time?

The whole point is that Average Joe enthusiast isn't going to make a super bike perform like average Joe can make a super car perform.
Ever notice that 95% of these car vs bike "tests" involve "average journalist" driving the car but "pro rider" on the bike?!

I read somewhere it was the outer old school 911 lens that was custom, the rest is off the shelf.
Can't find data source or shelf. But i like them too.

Performance wise the standard spec is enough for my needs.
I would like to do something similar to this F- car but 928 based. Perhaps with some Speedster in the rear treatment.

I've suctioned enough brains (literally) and seen enough faces missing half of their face from motorcycle riders of average ability not able to keep their bikes on the road to know that your average guy doesn't have the ability... despite what they feel they can do. GTR and R1 on anything other than a dry clean road favors the GTR. Factor in average ability in both cars and bike.. and the differential widens. Its called a turn. All roads eventually have one.

Was looking at a Top Gear write-up of Pebble Beach, and they had a slide about Singer. The writer for the article apparently asked Rob Dickson (founder) about a Singer 928 and were given "a preview of exactly that. We're sworn to secrecy - for now - but if it all comes off it will be a truly extraordinary car. Pioneering, even."
Personally I doubt it'll happen, but it would be interesting nonetheless.
