Oh sure Rob. Now you freaking post that you don't have a gasket. I had the engine out and regasketed the whole thing two years ago but you don't suggest this to me! Now I want to take my oil pan off, clean off the cork gasket and do this just to do it. Damn you!

Bryan-

The hose is an oil return line from the scavenge pump that drains the cylinder head oil.

RE: the 'no-gasket', there's a 3/8" pan spacer sandwiched in there, so either you'd need 2 gaskets (which makes things like mounting a starter a bit of a challenge) or you use some Mercedes sealant on the mating surfaces. Not sure what other users of pan spacers have done.
