Any 928 owner using VEMS?
Hi, I'm soon done with the installation of a VEMS system on my euro 928s -81 (with a euro 4.7 16 -84 engine). As this is my first ECU installation and beeing a newbie in engine tuning I was kind of lost when I browsed through all the different parameter settings in the Vemstune software. So my question is if anyone here has done such an installation and software setup and if it would be possible for me to copy it to have something to start of with? This is the setup in short:
Wasted spark (controlled by the stepper motor outputs)
Standard high Z injectors
Bosch TPS
Bosch MAP
100-1 trigger wheel
...
The engine previously had a LH-Jetronic system. Once and if I get the engine to start I'm planning to have it mapped by a professional but I'd like to at least have it running before going there. Thanks in advance!

Search is your friend...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VEMS
maybe even:
http://www.vems.us/
Of course this wasn't from a Rennlist search...

VEMS is the "" off plan distro" of Linux"" of the automotive ecu world. Years ago they had an altogether freaking unreadable "wikki" as a documentation site. They have forums now.
But Colin got some done. And the OP seems to as well. Of course tuning is much harder than installing.

I can agree that the online documentation has "improvement potential" at least in a structual way but apart from that the VEMS system seems to be very configurable and it's quite cheap as well. My original (broken) -81 engine had a Haltech system which weren't compatible with the new engines 100-1 trigger wheel. But thanks for the info about Colin, I'll try to get in touch with him.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask about coil-on-plug. Is there a known good fit off the shelf? So many mainstream CoP these days I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few that fit closely. Not doing it any time soon, but at some point in the far future I'd like to go full MS/VEMS (ignition and fuel.) Before that I'll be setting up MS for my scout (again, full ignition and fuel.) Though even that is a third project (first, remodel house, second, paint 928, third, get scout running.)

Not sure how I've missed this thread.
So far there are 3 928s running VEMS.
All running wasted spark with COP units.
All 3 are 87+ engines.
The 16V cars are better to use CNP instead.
The 32V cars can use Cayenne COP units though I am now using VW2.0T coils. They're essentially the same but triggering them is much simpler.

I have installed VEMS on two 928's here in Estonia, one is 4.7liter 928S ('86 with EFI) and has VAG COP ignition, other is '80 4.5 with 4.7liter EFI heads etc.
First 928 VEMS install was back in 2006, second was in 2008. Both running like champs and 4.7liter one is getting a big healthy turbo as we speak
