having left the car in a shop for six weeks with a job list that included timing belt and fuel line replacement amongst other things i am now back behind the wheel! in addition i had eibach springs, mintex liners and goodridge braded hose put in place.
the springs have improved the handling substantialy, along with poly bushes to the front upper and lower suspension arms! much better - flatter through corners, more precise steering and increased stability at speed. pleasingly the ride remains compliant even on terrible road surfaces, in fact it feels better!
previously in addition to 17inch wheels i had replaced the shocks with billstein items and added ott drop links front and rear + re bushed the front sway bar. these latest upgrades bring the car to a place i think represents a good balance for real world compliance and use. i am waiting on rear bushes to complete the whole car.
icing on the cake in this round of work includes viscous fan and air-pump deletion and a RMB! those who have allready removed the rear muffler will understand the stupid grin i had as soon as the engine fired, which only got bigger each time i pressed the throttle.
Sounds truly excellent. I have some vibration just over 65 mph. It seems to happen more under throttle. When you ease off the gas, the vibration lessens. The tires have been balanced on a Hunter machine,... new Hunter alignment, new tie rods, new wheel bearings, new front tires. The Porsche certified mechanic only had me to replace the tie rods before my alignment. He specializes in suspension work. The Hunter balancing machine did indicate some problems with the rims. He did say I needed new shocks and motor mounts. But, they were not serious problems.
Can some vibration be removed by replacing bushings? How difficult are the jobs? How much do the bushings cost? Do I need a new alignment after replacement? Are the upper and lower a frame bushings and sway bar bushings stand alone components to replace on the front end?
i dont know that the bushings would alter a vibration or not however they do improve the feel in steering - more direct, tighter- and i am pleased to have replaced them. the car has gone 160k, the old rubber bushes were worn with excess movement. they are not cheap and the front lower were a tight fit evidently requiring a puller to keep it in place whilst bolting it up. upper a-arms are time consuming to remove also. i had the parts supplied by mike at racebred autos in australia, not sure if the big three do the lower as well as upper front or anything for the rear.
is the vibration from the front, through the steering wheel or up through the seat?
