Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Last available from Porsche was summer of 2012, $1266. I didn't buy one, and they were NLA as of 1/14.
Kevin Berez has Dan P's '91 GT coming apart, not sure whether the transmission is spoken for, or not- I expressed some interest in it but haven't gotten an update in a while. Might be worthing pinging him (?)

It is still available. Need to find the time to drop it.

You mean a G28.57, right?

Are other year 5th gear sets interchangeable with GT boxes?

5th gear is the same in G28.12 and G28.55 boxes, so yes. The 'front' end of the GTS 5th gear is the same as the G28.55 5th gear, but the needle bearings that ride on the pinion gear shaft are different, so I don't think the GTS 5th gear works.

Thank you. I thought I might be able to help, but apparently not.

Wow, this is going to be an expensive one.
With respect to repairing a tooth... You may want to contact John Esposito at Quantum Mechanics. He mainly deals with British stuff, but here's why:
Laygears for Austin-Healey Mk 3000 BJ8's have been NLA since the early 1980's. It is a monolithic 4 part unit with one straight-cut unsynchronized gear (first gear) and 3 constant mesh gears (2,3,4). John is able to actually cut off bad sections and weld on new sections. They are very strong and he has units in service for tens of thousands of miles now. It would be worth a call to him, the guy is a genius on British transmissions and maybe he has an idea for our German counterparts...
Either way, good luck, Roger.
