Well of course technology always evolves and even a few years in that time period saw just massive changes.

The Spitfire showed up at a time when it was sorely needed and it turned out it not only looked good but was just good enough too... and kept getting better.

The 'few' who flew in those early Spitfires (& Hurricanes) will always be revered in some places, as will the plane. Can't imagine how many model Spitfires I must have built as a child.

In any case - inside every good P-51 beats the heart of a Spitfire - so 2 for 1 - how can you lose.

Still as you say too - the Spitfire looks better!

Alan

PS Of course since I was born in Southampton - the home of Supermarine - I'm certainly very biassed.

The stuff is magic on these cars. I fixed my passenger side window and the driver's side seat switch with it. Absolutely painless and a must for any garage.

I love Deoxit! I use it all the time for amp and guitar electronics repair. It also make a great dessert topping , fabric softener and mouth rinse.

Have you ever used it as a lubricant? Amazing!

I have tried that. It helped but I was simultaneously also having tensioner and pump problems, not to mention a weak 02 sensor and some cracks in a hose.

Is there any benefit of spraying deoxit between the rotor and the distributor cap?

Yes, for the de-oxidizing properties. It is not a cleaner per se. If there's any type of oily grime over an electrical connection, clean that in your usual fashion first. Then apply the Deoxit over the contacts. I wouldn't blindly spray between them though. Clean off the metal contacts first, then the de-oxidizing properties can be realized.

Same product or not? Curious.

The Deoxit Gold as less effective cleaning action. Good but not as good as the D5.

DeoxIT® Gold G-Series - Contact Enhancer, Conditioner & Protector
(formerly ProGold)

DeoxIT® Gold (formerly ProGold), is a unique conditioning solution that improves conductivity and provides long-lasting protection on gold, base metals and other precious metal contacts and connections (gold, silver, rhodium, copper, bronze, nickel, etc.).

Use on plated connectors, contacts and metal surfaces for maximum performance and protection.

Recommended for critical applications where only slight cleaning action is necessary. If the surface looks clean, applying DeoxIT D-Series contact cleaner first is usually not necessary. DeoxIT® Gold is designed to dissolve small amounts of oxidation. Apply DeoxIT® Gold after DeoxIT® D-Series contact cleaner on plated metal surfaces, except where noted with DeoxIT® Shield S-Series below. The more critical the connection or part, especially low current applications, DeoxIT® Gold should be the final step.
For reference, DeoxIT® Gold has approximately 0.5% cleaning action.

DeoxIT® D-Series - Contact Cleaner & Rejuvenator

More than a Contact Cleaner . . . Chemically Improves Connections
(without harm to metals and plastics)

DeoxIT® D-Series contact cleaner is a fast-acting deoxidizing solution that cleans, protects, lubricates and improves conductivity on all metal connectors and contacts.
Use as a general treatment for connectors, contacts and other metal surfaces, and on non-critical metal surfaces with severe oxidation and corrosion. If the metal surface is discolored, it is severe. DeoxIT® dissolves the contamination and protects the surface.
For reference, DeoxIT® has approximately 20% cleaning action.
KEY FEATURES:
•Improves Conductivity

•Deoxidizes, Cleans & Preserves

•Reduces Intermittent Connections

•Reduces Arcing & RFI

•Reduces Wear & Abrasion

•Temperature Range, -34 C (-29 F) to +200 C (400 F)

Also,
The D5 Deoxit spray is 5% with a propellant in a spray paint type can.
I use the D100 Deoxit spray - 100% in a small spray bottle. I also use the needle applicator D100 liquid for small connections. If contact area is soiled, I clean it in the usual fashion prior to deoxidizing them.
