The last of the PO's aftermarket wiring...wired to starter
HI All
After having pulled a ton of aftermarket wiring off this car, i think i am down to the last of it.
First pic is top end of this wiring with the two (black and blue)wires originating from the starter.
As you can see--into a relay:red to a 30A fuse and then onto jump post:yellow grounded to cross support mount.
Pic 2 is the other end.
The blue and black then become the two heading into the heat shrink connections and one to the wiring harness and two to the starter.
I have a new wiring harness(starter to 14 pin) from Carl which i will install after i finish cleaning, what i would like to know...can i eliminate this non original wiring completely and attach the 3 wires in the new harness to the starter?
What was the purpose here for the additional wiring? Immobilizer? If so is there any chance removing this will immobilize the car?
Thanks as always!

I sympathize with you. I've had two cars that had aftermarket alarm systems along with elaborate stereo installations. I was able to remove all of it by carefully reading the wiring diagrams and slowly figuring out what they had done.
30A is a lot of juice. I'll uess it was for an alarm system and fed, from the control box, back to the rest of the car. Maybe it splices back into the power feed to the fuse panel.
If you look at the new harness those two small ring connections should be different sizes. The connections to the starter have two (OK, three) different sizes for the connections.

Can you show a picture of the back of the relay socket where the wire go in? - it's odd looking.
Two possible purposes:
1) Starter disable for an alarm system
2) Local relay for starter solenoid (you have a starter relay already on the CE panel)
In case 1 you can just strip it all out, in case 2 - I'd have to presume there was some issue with the stock starter relay that explains why this was added... in any case that should still be fixable... I'd check if the CE relay has been bypassed somehow though...

Thanks Glen,
There are NO other splices/connections...this is all there is... meaning that it doesn't pick up any other connections between the top picture and the bottom picture.

Can you show the back where the wires enter the socket - so I can see what goes to what terminal - so far in both these pictures it looks like a relay with only one side of the coil connected...
Can you also take the relay out and show the terminal end - it seems to be an oddball dual 87 relay in ~Bosch pinout

OK I can't read any terminal ID's next to the pins - can you?
If they are there - can you describe them with the perpendicular terminal to the top.

Oh...
That could be a starter boost relay. On later cars the solenoid needed more current when hot, or the ignition didn't give enough, and people ran an extra set of wires.

OK from what you describe this is case 2 a local starter relay..
You should not need this - investigate the CE panel starter relay

I don't think this is aftermarket alarm stuff as it looks like it is a mechanic in over his head with starter electrical issues.

Got time now to search for this.
I believe that you've got the problem and fix in this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...it-coming.html
Check it out but if it's boosting current to the solenoid then I'd leave it in there.

What I said was it was some kind of bandaid to replace/supplement the stock starter relay (let's stay with the plot here...).
It may indicate some issues and also possible butchery to the stock starter relay.. so worth checking there for modifications...
