Remove the forward splash shield from any 928 and everything in that cavity should be visible.
What specifically are you looking for?

Rob: I want to do some work to manage road noise entering the cabin via that route.
Is this photo..farther up, suggesting that the back of the door striker pin can be seen in there as well?
Because..that doesnt look far enough "in" to the door jam area.

There is also a cavity behind the speakers that go into the rear quarter panels that I stuffed with insulation.
That is another place in that area, just don't use expanding foam there as that is where the interior of the car vents.

My knee jerk would have been yes, that those are the two bolts holding the door striker pin in place, except that those bolts are on a diagonal, while the bolts that actually hold the pin in place are vertically oriented.
Will put the sawzall in the car and go to town on the next 928 I can convince Mark to let me cut, at 928Intl.

Maybe the visible striker plate bolts to some backing plate, which is mounted with the two bolts visible from the wheelwell?

There appears to be an inner panel #6, (928 502 051/052 02) to which the rear quarter panel attaches, maybe there's a potential space between the two of them that could be foamed?

That cavity is part of the air circulation system if memory serves me right. I think it best to leave it open if you desire/need any sort of ventilation.

I haven't done anything about it and have learned to live with it, but it does seem odd to me given the cars GT mission.

Dan/Jeff-- The latest cars have that closed-cell foam at the top of the B-pilar and the rear at the bottom of the window butress to slow noise migration to other cavities. There's no evidence of that being any part of the cabin vent strategy, since there are no openings into the cabin from that area that aren't already blocked with foam.
That said, if you think you might --EVER-- need to use PDR in the b-pilar area there or just behind the door, you'll want to make sure your additional sound-deadening can be removed easily. Temptation would be to use foam sheets cut to fit, sealed in poly bags before installation. If you do decide to use expanding foam, inflate a poly bag in there first with the vacuum-cleaner outlet nozzle, then foam inside that. Tape the sealed bag in place to make sure moisture doesn't get up in there affter installation. You already know that your favorite shaping tools are the electric carving knife and a 36-grit disk on the mini disk sander.
