Hi, have you checked the plastic ball cup that goes in to the end of the clutch shifter arm? I had the same shuddering symptoms, problem 100% fixed with new ball cup. I know others also have had these symptoms with a toasted ball cup.

I actually have an early 79 that is metal on metal. No ball cup on the clutch fork end in these early cars. That would have been a nice easy fix!!Thanks for the suggestion!!

Okay, here are some comparison pics with measurements. I also installed these today. Took about an hour all told. Would have been easier WITHOUT the axles in place as these large mounts are tricky to get into place. Have a pry bar and bottle jack handy to raise/lower/support the diff and move it side to side as needed.

1. Place car on ramps/stands or a lift
2. Remove 19mm bottom mount bolts, retain spacers/ square washer.
3. Support differential so that NO weight is on mounts. Important as you could strip the soft alloy if not fully supported.
4. Remove 19mm mount bolts. On passenger side, you can access the bolt to the front of the axle shaft. On driver side, access bolt from on top of the axle. Swing is limited on either side, use a long 3/8 ratchet (or air ratchet) after you break them free as there is limited room for 1/2 inch drive.
5. Feed new mounts in above the axles from the rear of the car. TIGHT fit and you will need to shimmy the diff to either side, up and down to get them to fall in place. Don't put any bolts in until both sides are in place.
6. Start mount bolt to diff first and do so by hand as they can strip easy if any pressure is on the mount. Torque bolts.
7. Fit bottom mount bolts and start by hand. Lower differential and torque bottom mount bolts.

My install had no shims, but you may need to replace whatever shims were removed. If using these larger mounts, you will need new UPPER bolts GRADE 8 (M12 x 1.5 x 80). I used 75mm length as 80 was not available locally.

Once installed, these fit beautifully and you no longer can shimmy the rear with your hands. These should last longer as they are double the size and best of all, they are less than half the price of the smaller version.

Took it for a test drive.....very slight shudder in reverse, NONE in forward gears!!!! I think the motor mounts will cure what little is left. Car feels 1000 percent better. Shifts are crisp and tight now!!!!

Yes. You can just use the 513 on both sides. This is the ticket. I do believe the prices have increased however.

Hey Guy! The innovator, lol. I was hoping you'd be out there, somewhere...

I found one, don't remember if it's the left or the right, for $63! I'm taking that one now. Then, come back for the other, just under $75!!! This is great news for me and thank YOU so much for delivering it... Also, the trans shock absorber... $55. It's all good.

Thanks la for your work and worked for experience!

check the upper bell housing bolts. I had a nasty clutch shudder, and the upper bell housing bolts were loose. tightened bolts and problem gone.

Default Revived Post...

Hey 928...

I should have added a title to my post,,, I revived this thread to double check on some part numbers for trans mounts

BTW, Guy... It's been a while since you installed these mounts. Everything still right with them??? Thought I would ask real quick...

Good morning ALL...

Hey Guy (hope you're still out there)... I had no luck with the 513 mount. Ordered from 3 different sites that advertise stocking the 513,,, just to have them come back and say no dice... No longer available! The 613 was easy to find,,, I have one on the way.

QUESTION - Are folks saying that the 613 mount will work on either/both sides? Is there some combination that will work? Id prefer beefy-er mounts on both sides but sometimes ua gotta do what ya gotta...

I'm having a VERY hard time kicking up $200+ bucks for the mount listed for my 1986.

Hey Guy,,, if you're out there.. I'm under the car now. The smaller of the 78 mounts doesn't seem to fit very well on the pass/right side... Lots of play at the top/transmission end O the mount when lower bolt is tight. Does the larger of the 2 78 mounts go on the passengers or driver's side,,, if you remember...?

So yeah...
On my 1986 I really struggled at getting that larger 513 mount into place/lined up. Dropped CVs raised and lowered, pryed trans side to side and no joy... Gave up for the day feeling a little defeated... I should have done this before posting but did the OP have success in a similar model year. 85 86?

The 613 mount didn't seem to fit at all. Toooo much space between the top of the mount and where it bolted into the trans. I would have had to use washers as spacers. I didn't / don't like that idea.

Any help, suggestions or advice would be super appreciated at this point. I just couldn't figure it out...! Hate when that happens

Fresh day, fresh set of eyes and fresh hands will get you success I am sure.

So both mounts are out currently?

Could the space between the mount and the diff be lessened by shifting the unit over towards the mount? I am not aware of any dimensional differences that would cause any issues on your year.
