Hypothetical On Fender Rolling
Ok, I was hoping the panel could save me from myself on this one.
I've ditched the stock flats.
Putting on some nice 17 turbo twists.
Rear tires are 255/40ZR17.
Car is just down in the pic, has not settled yet.
Gearing up to roll out fenders a little.
Planning on baseball bat (dowel rods in this case) and heat gun method.
So specific question is (in hypothetical terms of course): If I use my IR gun, what heat would I want on the paint? Watched a Subaru guy last night recommend 200F., seems a little hot?

I would love not to roll them at all, but these are off another 86 that the owner had to roll out a little to avoid rubbing with passenger weight in car.
Forgot to mention that stock spacers still on.
8.5 rims, don't have pic handy, but looking from rear of car I will need more room.

I'd just remove the spacer or get a thinner one's then risk messing w/ the sheet metal and or paint.
I've see some roll jobs go horribly wrong and the fenders then needing a re-spray and or body work, it's not like you don't have an option and you are running 11" rims w/ 295 or 305's.
I'd think about it a bit first.

I found this online.
"Don't be lazy! Heat the paint, heat the paint & heat the paint especially the area of contact between the roller and inner lip and the area where it will bent once you apply the pressure. How hot does it need to be? Well. If you feel that your finger hurts and hot then that should be enough. Probably as hot as when you touch your car's paint under the sun when it's 104 degree out there."
"Just make sure you don't boil or melt the paint. This is the most important step to prevent the paint from cracking because heated paint flexes easier."

what is the offset of the rear wheel and what is the spacer width you refer as stock?
The only problem with removing the spacer is you need to either fit different length studs or run with open nuts [as I chose to]. There should be no need for worries about the clearance to the fender with a 255 section.

Chris thanks for the tip.
Dave, you are right of course, but it's like a moth to a flame. LOL.
Fred, 0ne inch spacer approximately.
It's done, anyway.
Went fine, took it slow and tracked temp with a IR gun. The only casualty was that I got sidetracked and picked up the heat gun by the wrong end...that was unpleasant.

Has anybody tried fender rolling with the Eastwood pliers?

It's intended for fenders with that flat edge most seem to have these days.
