SCCA Laguna Seca Race this weekend 6-7-2014 GT2 class for the 928
If anyone is in the area, come out and say hello . should be a nice weekend at sears with a lot of fast cars.
I got the new brakes ( Raybestos ST-41 ) pads that everyone said I should try, (they said, its like "God" stopping you) , and some pretty new (used) slicks from world challenge GT last year (305s on all 4 corners) to run on for the race.
transmission is still holding up, but it needs to be exchanged for a working one. (second gear poping out issue, and 3rd gear lock up happened 2 times )
and the blown out rear shock needs to be replaced and will be when the transmission gets swapped out. Now that all the excuses are out in the open, time to go racing!

Mark,
Suspension is for old men & wusses.
Don't forget the Amsoil and may the force be with you. Look forward to hearing how you managed to goof up [only kidding]!

Thanks guys. Its a Friday Saturday event.(actually sunday two if I run both races). Friday practice and qualifying at 10:30 and 1pm , and the race Saturday is around 1pm. looks like an amazing field. everyone is trying to qualify for the runoffs. now running in the GT2 class which is basically, cup cars and many others. (speed GT cars from the past). a packed field. even Scotty B White (x world challenge viper driver, and runoff competitor) coming down from Washington with his Viper to run!

Hey Mark,
Great to see you yesterday. I'll email you the pics as well. Here are the ones I took with my phone if you want to download them.
Have a great day running today. The 928 sounded great.

Richard, Great to see you and catch up.
the race was awesome! 45 cars took the green and we must have had about 20 cars within about 2 seconds 1:36 to 1:38s. I couldn't find the 1:36 in the race, but got a 1:38.0, mainly because the entire race was trying to get around the 500hp NSX turbo!
The BRAKEs!!!!!! (For Speedtoys -Jeff)
Tried the Raybestos ST-41s
They were a little disappointment. not much better as far as the Performance friction PFC 01s BUT, a whole lot worse as far as rotor wear. they are just too aggressive as far as a compound for the stock rotor steel. I wonder if the real race rotors use something a little harder? they just grooved them . not destroyed, but I don't know how long the rotors will last before they are toast.
Absolutely glad I bedded them in at home on the freeway, because even with that, they were not that good for 2 laps, hot pit rest and back out again. much better in qualifying. they too need to be bedded.... just like other pads. Ill probably go back to the PFC -01 or try the new version "13".
However, I will say, they did have more initial bite, but it was no problem to modulate. and they also faded down from 130mph to turn 2 at Laguna's Andretti hairpin turn. I think at this level of racing, a 13" rotor just doesn't cut it unless it is a purpose built 2 piece component.
The race started out great. made a few passes, had some great battles with 3 cars.... what more could you want. Flogged the car from start to finish, though we did have a couple of caution laps for a car that had a wheel fly off and darted out into the sand. I think I have the video too of that.
video coming. ill post the highlight reel sometime today or tomorrow.
by the way, there is no oil issue with the 928... I flogged the car relentlessly. hot day too, on slicks.... the car is a beast and hard to believe its as old as it is. many came by to comment on it.

No, its because you refused to upgrade the rears, and are now xtremely, violently, front biased at the friction levels that they run. (~0.73 thru peak temps)
Id bet you easily ran a lower system pressure and got more braking, before you overwhelmed a likely 90% front biased config.
I cant fix what refusing to listen to expert advice does.
You will disagree with me.
You will attempt to quote data that has nothing to do with the situation at hand.
You will attempt to suggest the 928 is 'different' somehow.
You will still be wrong, but it won't surprise anyone.
I have customers (former, my day job got too busy and I passed it on) that today run cars wayyyy faster and heavier than you, and last over a season on one set of pads and rotors. The difference being they listened to their vendor.
I have spec class cars a shade slower than you, and still heavier..on OEM calipers and rotors, with the same season-long results, where every 2 weekends was new PFC or Hawk material and rotors.
Didja rub some Amsoil on the pads? It might help.
You were told to expect this outcome going in...so now that it DID, "they were no good" is your play?
