Default Instrument illumination not working--dimmer wires already joined

Hey everyone! Sometime last year I noticed that my pod illumination lights weren't working. All of the warning lights still work, just not the illumination of the pod as a whole. I installed LED lights in there last winter and it was working fine, but I think I might have jostled something when I was in behind the pod doing something or other a few months later. I didn't notice until a while after as I don't usually drive the car at night, and before I could get to it I had to pull the engine to fix a head gasket leak. Now that all of that is done, I want to get the pod illumination working so that I can drive this car safely at night. I already have the three dimmer wires joined together under the left of the steering wheel and that doesn't fix the problem. Is there any other obvious failure point that anyone can think of? Any other wires or connections in particular that I should be paying attention to? Thanks!

Sorry, it's an 84. It used to be in my sig, but it looks like my membership needs to get renewed. No centre console illumination.

Of the 3 wires you have attached at the dimmer, one should be Black and the other 2 should be Black/Blue. The Black is the power into the dimmer rheostat. One Black/Blue feeds the pod, the other feeds the center console. First see if you have voltage of the Black wire relative to a known good grounding point.

Fuse no. 4? I think that serves the panel illumination.

That was it! I feel ashamed that I didn't think about something simple as a fuse being the problem, yet relieved that the fix was that simple. Thanks so much!

Murphy's Law, Automotive troubleshooting corallary:

Always check the fuses. If you check the fuses, they will be fine. If you don't check the fuses first, it will be a fuse at fault.
