Default My Honda S2000 antenna mod

Hi Guys,
I listen to my radio when I drive, and I kind of hate my 3 foot long silver antenna shaft, when it is deployed. I used to own an S2000 and it had great radio reception with a 6" black shaft. I decided to buy a Honda antenna and see if I can make it fit my older boy car with a rear fender mount. I will post pictures as I go along, but I think it just might work OK.
Thanks,
Dave

Sounds like a good idea Dave.

I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Please keep us posted. My car has a spoiler that is in the way of the stock antenna, so I have a terrible looking AZ antenna mounted. It was always meant to be temporary, for like the last 5 years.

Hi, I got my S2000 antenna, about $100 on ebay. In the Honda, the mast is slanted back due to the bevel mount. On the 928, that bevel matched the curve of the rear fender perfectly. That allows the mast to be vertical. Because of the narrow space inside the fender, I had to rotate the stock bevel mount by 90 degrees. There are two locating notches, and I had to cut two more to let the mounting bevel turn and stay in place. The amplifier is in the box attached and I will use the switched power to the Hirschman antenna to power it. I will try to mount it in the next day or two. There is a front and side view to see what I am working with. When I hold the mast in place on the car it looks very good and matched the rubber spoiler on my car.
Thanks for watching,
Dave

I finished the install. It required quite a bit of fiddling. I had to solder a coax adapter from the factory cable to the new antenna jack. The reception is as good or better than the fully extended Hirschman AUT 2040 antenna that I had before. The new mast has a slight rearward tilt and stands plumb in the longitudinal plane. It is fairly innocuous when parked and I think it looks a lot better than the 3 foot silver mast before.
It was quite a bit of trouble, and I am not sure I would recommend to others unless they have a lot of motivation or patience.
Good luck,
Dave

I like the looks of that over all the others I've seen. Well done. Hope you don't mind if I copy this on future cars that need it.

It probably took me 2-3 hours, but there is really only 30 minutes worth of work, once you solve little problems. Hardest part was making a coax adapter from parts I had lying around.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for all the positive comments, and any negative ones too. I would be honored to have anyone use this idea on their own application.

Nice little stinger. Looks sporty.

and 'right' to me.

Great idea.

This will be a common mod for many when their masts fail.
