Roger,
The problem is that while Randall backs the car 100% he was, sort of, blindsided by his customer.
The SharK has Idaho plates, registration. She said she had a clear title in hand ... for Ebay sales purposes ... she wasn't being sneaky but ... How long will it take to:
a) Get a temp tag from Idaho for a car sold out of state so I can legally drive it for approximately 30 days?
b) Get the car retitled to a Texas title so I can drive the car across 5 states legally including the trip to Pennsylvania?
For my purposes I wanted the car tagged and titled in Texas as I have residences in Texas & Pennsylvania. Since it will be driven to Northwest Pennsylvania and needs to be properly tagged ASAP.
Two other minor reasons I'm concerned about is that:
a) The owner is in the middle of a Idaho divorce and I have no wish to get involved in her, possible, legal & property issues.
b) If I do end up paying $20K for a car ... I expect to be driving it ASAP. While I could be called impatient or mildly paronoid about my concerns please consider that I'm an old, gimpy, round guy now a days
with a reduced amount of clock time on the planet. I really don't want to involve myself with other peoples problems regardless of thgeir good intentions.
Anyhow, since you have moved a few sharks over the years here in Texazz if you have any insight to expediting a Idaho to Texas title swap any advice would be appreciated if not beneficial to one party or the other
in this transaction. Realistically there is little chance this can be expidited to conclusion within the next 14-15 days and if thats the case I'll probably buy that immaculate 87' out of Doylestown, Pennsylvania
after a long distance Porsche Dealer PPI.

Being a former ID resident, unless things have changed, there should be no reason for you to get an idaho temp tag. unless you have a residency there, why would they issue one? a bill of sale should be all you need along with a copy of insurance. then drive to TX and work on getting it tagged.

Things have changed. Since 9/11. Both for car and gun sales another story-.
And while I do want that car, I want nio part of any title problem not of my making.
I'm buying a car (over priced ) and see no reason not to have the title issue resolved at purchase.
A clear title in Idaho is not a clear title in Texas, OK?
Add to that she is in the midst of a Idaho divorce and the car might have joint property problems. As to a Texas Title ...
even if I don't have a valid TX drivers license no problem my son is also named John Struthers and lives at my Texas residence.
If the owner can fix the Title issue (I want a clear Texas Title, for Registration, tagging, driving purposes while I'm still here in TX
for the next month or so) in the next 14-15 days then fine. If not ... no deal, just that simple.
As to the 87' S4 in PA. I have a PA license and a residence in PA so I won't have issues at all re: Titling/Registration. And as I said before,
I only have so much time left on the planet and have no desire to become entangled in other people's problems

(888) 368-4689 Texas DMV Just call and ask them what you need to title in TX.

In IL you can get a temp tag for 7 days after the sale of a vehicle (dealer or private party) in order to reach your state. I know this from experience. Perhaps Idaho does something similar. Again just call them and see what they need. Should be straightforward.

A couple phone calls and you should have peace of mind. If you aren't comfortable just walk.

Hey guys thanks for the added info.
If 'SHE' not me can't/won't do it I'm out as of today..
FWIW
When I bought Pattycakes my 82 Weissach - San Diego - back around 2000
we went thru all the paperwork ( I was a real weenie about everything being spot on and legal for the ride back to Texazz ), the Temp tag was sitting on the dealers desk. He put all the paperwork into a large mailer envelope. As we walked to the door he said he needed to make a phone call
and would be right out. While waiting I started the car and lifted the hood to make sure the replaced radiator end tanks and hydraulic lines weren't leaking.
The dealer came out and told me to hop in and we would make sure all the lights were working one last time after he put on the Temp plate. Lights worked good, but when I finally noticed after a 21 hour drive back to Midland there was no plate but a taped on bill of sale. Checked the envelope and just a stack of xeroxed copies of the bill of sale *%^$#@! ... Texas DMV said it might be legal in Cali but not in Texas. Had to wait over a month for the Cali title with DMV out there demanding a Smog check and payment of several outstanding tickets.
Again, this is not my problem but the owners I'll be calling Randall later today to see where she is at in the process - no progress, I start negotiations on that pristine, and slightly overpriced 87' S4, today.
