tail light socket replacement
does any one know where i can get a new socket for a 89 928 tail light. i went to clean the rust off the old one and the contact broke. their are a few 1256 sockets on amazon but i don't know which one will work. my friend works in circuit cards and will do the actual work but i need to find the socket first. thanks

I used NAPA 680-3296 ("Tail Lamp Sockets and Harness" for "Mercury/Nissan"; qty. 2 in package), along with some home-made gaskets cut from some foam sheets I got at a hobby store. Note, though, that they're for the two-filament 1157 bulbs, not the one-filament 1156 bulbs.

I'd advise to fix the source of moisture intrusion at the same time. There is typically a heat related crack at the top of the S4 light housing. Water can easilly enter the interior of the fixture.
Additionally, I'd encourage the drilling of additional holes in the top of the bumper cover under the lights.
I repaired my light housing with epoxy, drilled the holes AND found a used S4 light harness and have been without issues for a couple of years in sometimes rainy Florida.
Good Luck!

Use the duel filament sockets and increase the visibility of your braking illumination. Below are links to Borland's write ups on this which include the grounding remedy to keep your cruise control happy. This is next on my list to do.
+1 to what Trey said on the drain holes. I think Bertrand Daoust has a thread on hows & wheres.

You could always install the 1157 socket & bulb and only connect the 5W filament (then later you could do Borland's mode - or not). This will work fine - same spec.
There is a certain logic to this - if all your rear bulbs were 1157 you'd only need 1157 replacement bulbs, if a brake light bulb burned out you could swap one in from a marker light.
