83 US manual. Put the pod back together last night and noticed the bulb in the trip reset **** was on, but very dim.

Also noticed the bulb in the hazard light **** is dim in the off (out) position. But normal bright when on (in) and flashing.

Tried tweaking the contacts in the **** switches to hold the bulb tighter. And put a drop of deoxy in there too, but still have the same results.

All electrical contacts in the pod, pod switches, cluster, cluster plugs, etc. were cleaned and deoxyed. Everything else functions as it should.

Any ideas why the dim bulbs on these two *****? Tried a search but no luck. Thanks in advance. Josh

 

I replaced mine with LED's for the same reason

 

Go get some of these #74 type bulbs and be forever happy. Mix and match the colors to how ever you want them.

In the *****, some of them have filters inside and you can take those out by popping the printed part out from the front. The color filter is on the back side (green) pop it out and the color will be more vibrant.

So on say the flasher ****, did you go with a white bulb or a red one?

They slip right in, your biggest problem will be getting the old bulbs out as some are stuck in deep. Don't be afraid to break the glass and then pull the rest out with some needle nose pliers.

On mine I went White for head lights. Yellow for Fogs, green for Odo, red for hazard and yellow for defrost. The same bulbs work in the HVAC light also and for that I went blue.

Just one inside the HVAC unit.

 

Its important to understand how these are supposed to work.

Headlight Switch - always on at fixed low level illumination with ignition on
Fog Light Switch - variable low level illumination with lights on. bright when activated
Dash Reset Switch - variable low level illumination with lights on.
Rear Defroster Switch - variable low level illumination with lights on, bright when activated (either mode)
Hazard Switch - variable low level illumination with lights on, flashes off<->bright when activated

The variable level is of course the same one as for the variable dash illumination & console lights - try varying it...

New bulbs are brighter than old bulbs (they deposit on the inside of the capsule and become dimmer over time).
