It keeps the heat off the hood.... Very good in my opinion.

Our aluminum hoods are great thermal conductors and the paint will bubble over time due to the heat transfer from the engine.

Sounds like the factory stuff, but cheaper.

Seems like a good deal.

The starting bid is not bad There are conflicting theories as to the effectiveness of this product. They are sold at Devek, and you might want to talk with them about it's effectiveness. I recently opted to replace mine with the OEM from 928Intl. I figured if that is what the factory put there to begin with, it must be ok!

Thumbs down

not original look, looks tacky, holds in heat to cook engine hoses and plastic, etc.

original is sound insulation, not so much heat insulation

I agree with Tom , the hood foam is for noise reduction based on the waffle pattern rather than heat control . In all my years of experience ...hundreds of 928s I have never seen damaged paint on the hood which I would atribute to exessive heat .

Same paint is used IN the engine bay - no problem with heat.

Looks like Apollo 13 heat shielding - I say crappy bad.

Here's what it should look like (liner material from 928 International):

I would not buy the hood pad. The metal exterior will trap any moisture between it and the hood. This may or may not cause corrosion over time. I would not take the chance.

I stand corrected.

Although perhaps the heat shielding on the foam will help it last longer than the stock stuff...

I doubt the reflectivity will add that much additional heat to the engine compartment.
It's not like the hood is a primary source of cooling.
With the stock insulation, it is keeping the heat in the foam anyhow.
Probably reducing it's lifespan.
Seems like this stuff is just a way to protect the foam itself, more than the paint.

Do you think maybe the insulation is also used for sound dampening? With the tin it will reflect some sound back onto the engine. With the pad it will absorb a certain amount of noise, that the tin will not.

The original padding can breathe. Relinquishing any moisture in the pad when the engine cools down. Where as the tin lined hood pad will hold moisture between the tin and the hood. The padding on some Sharks have survived what about 10-20 years.

This is just my thoughts on the subject.

Randy - Did you have to pay extra for the front piece or did they include that? That looks great! One of the single best improvements to the look of the engine compartment.

I used HVAC thin foam matting w/foill shield. It protects the hood from heat ...it's inexpensive. Comes in an 16" roll (1 roll will do).
Not the best for sound which is alright by me ...I like to hear the engine purr.

The stock mat is good, but looks bad when its old. Not to mention the engine droppings.

I would go with the hvac if I was on a budget.
