If the problem is a physical failure or wearing out of components or contacts, the magic wand won't work.

Not a suggestion, more a question, one of the guys on the other forum used CLR and it "seemed" from the pictures to work, leaving the brass nice and shiny. I recall something used to neutralize, followed by distilled water rinse.
Vinegar is used by some of the flashlight guys to clean up corrosion, followed by baking soda and water rinse.

Vinegar and baking soda work individually and together, from personal experience, as per my previous post # 44.

Stan, thanks for the tip. The can arrived yesterday and I used it this morning to clean the grounds at the back of the motor. The corrosion came right off and the metal turned gold. I left it on for a few minutes before tightened the bolt down. The car has never run this good before. Well worth $15.

In the case of the 'classic' CLR the ingredients are:
Component CAS# OSHA HAZARD % by Weight
1. Lactic Acid 79-33-4 YES 12.00-18.00
2. Lauramine Oxide 1643-20-5 YES 1.50-3.25
Personally I would not use it to clean electric contacts.

I would suggest that you get a few cans of brake cleaner and also electric spray cleaner
remove the alternator from the engine,
and clean the outside with brake cleaner stay away from the bearings,
then take it apart and use the elex cleaner to clean the inside,
inspect the alt for wear and the bearings and the brushes

holy crap
Stan, thank you so much!
I had a very lazy sunroof. It got to the point where I had to help it along by hand. I was just about to take it apart when I thought I'd give Deoxit a try, since it worked for you.
Two drops on the sunroof switch and it works like new.
It's amazing.
I'm gonna put that $h!+ on everything!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Yep.
But it everywhere.
14 pin connector, jump post, front point for lights on the left, EVERY GROUND POINT, CE panel front and back -> every fuse contact, every socket contact, every relay contact, your battery terminals (after you install the vents !), every harness connector you can get your hands on, the dimmer rheostat for brighter lights, MAF connectors, starter contacts, etc...
Add: Clean off the grime first.
