Default Anyone have a DIY fix for broken window switch plate?

My PO decided the best way to fix his sticky drivers window switch was to completely shave the top (er, front) of the hole down. The top tab that helps the switch snap into the plastic (the little one on the console, not the big springs on the switch) is completely gone. That didn't really work.
Now I'm putting in all new switches (except the wiper switch, no real issues with it) and I can't get the driver switch to snap in due to this "mod." It just flops in the hole.

It's frustrating as the other three switches are all in pretty good shape now. Working mostly correctly and reliably.

One minor gripe with the new passenger side window switch is that it sticks in the "down" position due to rubbing on the vinyl. The excess vinyl is all trimmed away below the sight line, but it seems like there's some warpage that's just enough to cause the switch to rub. I'm considering trimming the switch cover or maybe just lubing the rub point (though that's messy and a really crap hack - though not as bad as shaving the entire clip off the hole.)

So - wondering if anyone has DIY'd a plate for the switches to snap in to. And if anyone has had (and fixed) the warp/rubbing issue I've got on the passenger side?

Just get a new illuminated window switch kit from Roger. Replaces all your switches with touch switches for less than new ones.

Hmm... I saw those threads but never a price. I'm only $75 into my current setup thanks to the wonders of eBay.

I had some broken off tabs as well. I cut some extra slivers of plastic (about 1/8"x 3/4") off an non visable edge of passenger side parcel tray and glued them in place with gflex epoxy where the tab should have been. Works fine.

Did the same as Karl, but used 'Q-bond' to adhere.

I used a strip of brass I had lying around, and some epoxy.

Excellent, thanks for the replies. Good to know that there have been some functional fixes for that tab. I've got permatex plastic epoxy and have deleted both my shelves, so I'll see what I can gin up this weekend.

Tony Harkin's method to remedy switches that require a lot of force to activate:

Thanks Bill. It looks like the PO did Tony's mod to a couple of the switches, as well as the aforementioned tab trimming. End result was a switch panel that didn't stay together and didn't really work right even with the switch trimming Tony described. Really a mess. I am not saying that Tony's advice is poor, but for me spending the $25 for an eBay switch was worth it. The other new switches (with tabs in place) work way better now than when they were just trimmed.

If it's that bad he did it way wrong. I followed the tutorial and just shaved a gnat's *** worth off. Works perfect. When they fail again I will buy new ones.
