Rear hatch rattle

Rear hatch rattle
This morning while driving over a street with large chip seal cracks, the rear hatch made quite a bit of racket. Now its always been noisy, and when I first bought it, the fuse to the rear hatch was burned out, the electric rear hatch release was inoperable, and the rear wiper motor was blown. All of these problems have been repaired. I lift up on the rear hatch when it is closed and I get no movement. I always close the hatch slowly, and press down to "catch" the mechanism
Is there a way to tell if the hatch is closing fully? The seals seam ok (no leaks at the brushless car wash). Is all this noise just the rear windshield wiper vibrating?
Thanks!
Brian

There was also a small plastic piece on the arms to keep them from hitting the glass as I recall and it can fall off...you might remove the rear wiper and see how things sound that way..or tape some cloth to it..

I always understood this was a symptom of the hatch latch receiver liner/insert being missing. Here is a picture or two of the ones I have made to replace the low grade plastic ones the factory put in there. Mine are $35 shipped to domestic addresses.

Also.... check the "teflon" decals that keep the rubber guide wedges from squeaking. If they're gone, replacing them might help.
Worse case, the upper portion of the lock mechanism (on the hatch) may be cracked. I had replaced everything else to get rid of my rattles, to no avail, just to find that mine had a hairline crack. There are used ones out there on ebay (I only see receivers there now) and 928 Intl.

Function of everything above.
If those do NOT cure it, it still could be the hatch seal.
The seal can look "ok" and keep water out, but it will get compressed and brittle over time.
My 79 used to rattle like crazy. I did everything mentioned above to no avail. Replaced my hatch seal and "poof" no more rattles.
Oh, and it took a slam of the hatch to actually shut it after that vs an easy close.
Has not rattled once since then..

Just put in one of Jerry Feathers inserts and solved a ton of issues. Solid latching now, quieter, and after some zip-tie engineering it releases electronically too! Just got a keyless system wired up and working right tonight. Thanks Jerry!

Ok. I'm not sure how to post photos. its obvious that the receiver liner is missing from my car. I'm ordering one from Jerry Feather. Well see how that works. I've also adjusted the small bumpers on the corners of the hatch slightly.

There is also a little rubber pad on the rear wiper (in between the two arms) and if it's gone it 'taps' the back glass making a ruckus!
