Back in 81 when i bought mine I paid around $43k, and there wasn't much i could look at then
( non Porsche) that I could ( or wanted to) spend more on. The number imported to the US in 81 was low, remember they only made around 65k cars, period.

They sold 2-20 times more 911's than 928's in any given year. Especially GTS sales were very disappointing. Porsche hoped to make at least 15000 but they barely managed to make 5000 on best possible year.

At least in North America, it seems Panamera sales are keeping pace with the 928

Target markets include China and the middle eastern bloc, where there's enough newly-exposed wealth to grow the brand.

Well, they had pretty much given up on it by the time the GTS was produced. The failure to address serious issues (particularly with the engine) is a good indicator.

It may not have been a smashing success, it certainly didn't take the place of the 911 as it was intended to do, but "Disappointing Sales" after 14 years is hardly a flop.

Rob, when the guy shows-up, please ask him for a commitmtent to re-run a wider range of 928 parts.

That would be fun!

Comparing your GTS to a stock GTS would be like comparing a '89 Carrera to the performance of a new 991.....virtually a completely different vehicle!

Again perspective.....lifted from Wiki "

In the first year, 63,110 Edsels were sold in the United States; an additional 4,935 units were sold in Canada.

And Erkka is correct that Porsche could easily have made 10,000 of the 928s in any given year problem was they could NOT SELL THEM !! Right, wrong, or indifferent the market place decided that 928s were not needed ......and that from a marketing viewpoint is an Edsel.

while a current 928 would be cool, it most likely would be a restyled Panamera with 2 doors.....the good news is everyone loves the way the panamera drives, just hate the way it looks.... If the new 928-mera looked good, it could sell quite nicely....the bummer is it will be PRICEY for sure....I'd say $150k and up

A 2 door panemera thats under 4000 lbs would drive quite well me thinks

So the 928 development costs nearly bankrupted Porsche after it failed to achieve the projected sales... Glad its not only me!

Does this have any meaning?:

" U.S. CEO believes it will be the next Porsche model to become a classic."
