Hello,
My power mirrors do not function. I have two switches and was able to get the passenger side to move down only. I get a click from both mirrors on occasion as well. I took apart a switch to clean the contacts but I get no real difference in operation.
Before I buy a new switch......is there an easy way to test the mirrors by using the wiring at the switch?
Thanks
Guy

In the case of cars (later?) with seat & mirror memory, selecting different saved positions may cause the mirrors to move to a new position, which does not require the switch, and so can rule out non-switch issues.
I was able to clean one switch and get it working (from my '90) whereas the other ('88) was too far gone. The design is bad as it has an opening at the top which is bound to allow moisture and dirt in - open window or door in rain, cleaning, spill, etc. I wonder if anyone has found a better substitute that would fit.

I have the same problem. Passenger side will only move down. Driver side is non-operational. The fuse keeps blowing (on the '86, the fuse is shared by the reverse lights) when I touch it so I know I have a short somewhere.
Check the wiring and loom that snakes to and through the door. I read somewhere that breaks in the wires are common. I plan on upgrading to GTS mirrors one day so I'm fine with manually adjusting it for now.

I have a small problem too with my passenger side mirror.
It moves in every position using the mirror switch, but it doesn't move up or down when using the seat position switch. Left and right is fine. Driver's side moves in every position.
No big deal here but not working as it should I guess.

Bertrand you may be able to fix this by taking out the memory board its under the seat and resoldering the connections mine went bad and a reflow was performed and no troubles since.
FWIW usually the issues with the mirrors are caused by the side switch by simply snapping it a few times side to side you may get it to come back to life. water can get into these side and direction switches.
NOTE if you feel ambitious put the rocker switch in a big plastic bag and take it apart the bag should catch all of the small parts a littl bit of cleaning with a pink eraser should get it back online. pay attention to the wiring 3 wires blue yellow and green

Thanks! I fixed my mirrors. I guess the contacts remained dirty even after my dis-assembly. Persistent use of the switch cleared up all the bugs. Both mirrors work in all directions now. My toggle appears to be a recent replacement and a thorough cleaning followed by vigorous use got them working. In fact, they work better each time I use them.
For those looking to disassemble the toggle, I found it easiest to lightly heat the "nails" that hold the cover on. This enabled me to carefully pry the nails out with a small pic easily.
