I get that Mr Bailey, i commented that 'looping' lines should not be necessary to run the motor.

Plugging the block ports is easier and safer imho to test,
and fine to leave if he wants to run it without the cooler.

Sorry for the confusion, as you all were..

You need to put a loop in to take the place of the low resistance path of the cooler. When the motor is cold the thermostat is open and sends the oil straight to the filter and then to the oil galleries ... above 87 degrees C the thermostat is closed and sends the oil to the cooler, before it runs to the filter and galleries. If you plug the ports to the cooler it will mean that you block flow altogether (via the t/stat) when the oil temp rises and the t/stat closes. With that path blocked altogether when the oil has risen to operating temp, the only path for the oil to get past the closed t/stat and plugged ports, is via the bypass valve which opens when there's a pressure differential of 0.5 to 1.0 bar ... and you then have total reliance on that bypass valve to open and not limit the flow.

Fit a loop and you have a low loss path to replace the cooler ... and still have the back up of the bypass valve opening if there's any restriction.

Edit: If you wanted to run the car permanently without a cooler/radiator heat exchanger you could plug those ports, but you'd need to remove the oil thermostat or oil bypass valve .. or both ... to ensure you had a fail safe path for oil flow to the filter.

Great detail to include Dave,
remove the oil thermostat if you plan to plug the cooler ports and run without a cooler and don't want a loop.
Ports are located just above the oil pressure sender (59) with regulating device which are #s 54,55,56
Very simple to do.

Sheesh the last few posts are confusing.

You need to make sure there's a /QUOTE tag to go with each quote

P.S. Good Luck. And if you end up stuck with the car don't give up - consider what Glyn says above.

Relevance? Well ...

First, I was replying to and commenting on a previous post. I admit I was snarky in the first sentence - but the OP _had_ bought a car from another country, a country with which his country famously has a long and sometimes unhappy history.

Second, I was encouraging the OP not to give up.

Sorry if I touched a nerve while squandering bandwidth. I was trying for a wry chuckle.

Wonder how this ended up? It's a small world, I 'm also from Cork and bought a 928 GT in April 2014.
