Denis Jenkinson was the long time "Continental Correspondent" of the U.K. magazine "Motor Sport" and spent 40 or so years driving around Europe to attend and report on Formula 1 and sports car events from the 50,s through to the 80,s in cars such as 911,s and E Type Jaguars.
Probably none better to evaluate the long distance capabilities of the 928.
I always thought that he had a dream job when I read his articles.

[QUOTE=James Bailey;11112756]the 928 was produced for a very long time just NOT developed all that much...

compare the 911 development up to 1982, (18 years)
or 356 development from VW parts. SURE it was. It started life years ahead of everything though.
Crumpler's '86 is definitely developed from my '83S

Porsche development has always been incremental, slow and steady

The 924 deserves to be panned as a parts bin Frankenstein of a car supposed to have been a VW until the last minute when VW pulled the plug...

I wouldn't mind owning a GT or GTS!

I used to subsribe to "Motor Sport" in the early seventies, and it was Jenkinson,s appraisal of the E-type that confirmed my ownership of a 68 E-type Roadster..., as much as I love my 928, I wish I still had that car.., I would sell my soul !

I loved my old Jaguar too. I know what you mean.
First time i removed the valve cover and noticed the race wired cam sprocket bolts, inboard rear discs, great cars.
There are very talented builders recreating D-types right now.
That would be the car (real one) i would be tempted to sell mine for.

Thanks again Dave, you have a great weekend too buddy!

the XK twin cam motors that the public enjoyed had the very same bottom end as the XK motors that won LeMans outright mult times in the '50s. Bore changed though.

The only difference was that the connecting rods and pistons were polished and balanced by the apprentices. Polishing was done to help the oil cool them.

Excellent read, I too followed Jenks adventures as he reported on F1 and sports car races all over Europe driving his 4.2 E-Type coupe, because of this I was sold on getting an E-Type which I did.
