Default 1979 battery box replacement

1979 928 needs new battery box, I have a replacement but it appears the holes on the differential are not tapped . can they be or is this a no go.

79 used a battery box that was welded as part of the rear tub. 78 bolts on, Not sure how easily you can retrofit an early box on

thanks for info, I thought this was the case. Looks like a sheet metal fab job, anyone need the replacement box?

You can tap the holes, but you will have to cut off the old box. I had to change the unibody on my '82 and I used a '78 unibody and had to mount the bolt on box on the '82 diff. Not too hard, although I think one of the mounting points was perhaps missing in the casting. Also there was an issue with the routing of the exhaust. The '82 exhaust hit the bolt on box and required some small grinding and cutting type mods (to the box) to fit. Should be pretty easy to cut off the old box from the inside with an angle grinder.
