Default Lose the rubber spoiler on 1984

I have seen where others have eliminated the spoiler on their 928's. If I were to lose the spoiler on my 1984, what trim kit is out there to line the rear window? Could I use trim from a later model with a wing?

I did this on an 83 years ago. Several suggested that I find someone parting an S4 and just replace the hatch. I was on a limited budget so I did it the hard way. The rubber spoiler is held on by screws that attach to a special nut that also helps to hold the glass in place. After removing the rubber spoiler you will need to insert clips to help secure glass and to hold the new trim on. The trim is six pcs.

Your qtr window trim will never match up correctly unless you remove the window and replace the rubber seal. The S model uses different trim pcs and a different rubber seal. The non S trim pcs will not work with the S rubber seal.

Then you have to measure, mark and drill for the new spoiler. Then the cost of the new spoiler.

Time frame is key. If you are willing to wait for a good deal then buying the complete hatch would be the easiest, even with a repaint. Then you can always change back to stock if desired in the future. Once you drill for the new spoiler you are all in, for good.

It sounds simple and it is to get 80% of the way to your goal. It is the last 20% to get all the little detail items to make it look correct.

IIRC, first you would have to fill & paint the holes used to anchor both front & rear "S" spoilers. Then you would need to find rear non-spoiler rear qtr window trim. Can't remember if the rear qtr glass is the same. Unless your painting the car, would be easier to stay with what you have.02 T
